I’ve just done a day with Don Palmer at Bruntingthorpe and for the first time in his years there the manager complained about the volume from a customers exhaust, ie mine.
It’s a 240S with a ‘Lotus sports exhaust’ - does anyone else have one of these and does it make it through the noise restrictions at say Bedford?
If it is a bit too loud what are my options, aside from avoiding Bedford or replacing my exhaust? Is there a baffle or something I can attach? Not sure that’d work too well as it’s a central twin pipe exit through the diffuser and it points down towards the road. Any help would be ace thanks,
Brunters has really cracked down on noise recently.
I have put a standard exhaust on my S2 as I love places like Bedford and dont want to have to be careful past the mics, or get thrown off. They sound a bit naf, but you will never have noise police issues again.
no dB level quoted, i think we were at the wrong end of the track for the dB meters but the wind carried the sound
Sean how come you didn’t get a full fat exhaust and some sort of baffle for the quieter tracks, i’m driving the car daily and don’t fancy compromising on the exhaust just for a few days at Bedford
All vehicles participating must conform to the noise llimit, on a static test, of 105 dB(A).
Noise checks to establish adherence to the relevant limit will be conducted in accordance with current measuring methods as defined by the MSA. Essentially this means that the noise test shall be measured from a position 0.5m behind the exhaust at a 45 degree angle, with the engine running at 3/4 ( three quarters) of maximum revs.
In cases where the vehicle has two separated exhausts the measurement will be taken as above from the median point between the two.
Castle Coombe noise police can be a pain , and I think are even more onerous than above , both in the pits and on the track.
I have the lotus stage 2 sport exhaust on mine - seems loud, but was only 97.1 DB @ 5500 RPM at Bedford on Monday.
Depending what else you are running I’d be pretty concerned about their drive by - I think it was 85 or 87 DB @ 20 metres from track - WOT @ 8000RPM may well fail this badly - I wasn’t on track just meeting some friends so cannot really comment on whether you pass the drive by…
If you happen know where it is I guess you can always go past it as 3/4 throttle though.
Just never been bothered by having a loud exhaust I guess. I like the fact that it is quiet on the road, so it doesn’t drown out the sound of the wireless
looks like its the second version of the stage 2 and this is louder than the stage 3,
bedford’s 101 static so should be fine if it’s the same as yours Rez, 87dB driveby may be a problem, i think i’ll give it a punt in an evening session and see whether lifting at the microphones ruins it or not
may use it an an excuse to fit a GT3 2bular, panel eliminator and different diffuser
