Simple and maybe stupid question, but does anyone know if the Lotus Sport windscreen decal sticks on the outside of the windscreen or the inside?
It looks like the outside to me (hopefully Ryan doesn’t mind me using his car as an example, but it’s the only picture I could find with the decal in it).
and depending on where you get it from it may just be the decal - i.e with no black backing. the genuine one from lotus is like that and IMHO looks naff without the backing.
Don’t be put off by it. its not that hard.
Just take your time and put a weak watered down mix of fairy liquid on the screen first so that you can move the decal around and then squeeze out the air bubbles.
Its not hard - just take your time, then let the thing dry and the water / fairy mix to dry thoroughly before you drive it or use the wiper
One of the Lotus Sport guys dropped me a note to say that they use soapy water and a rubber blade (a old credit style card with a cloth wrapped round it will do) to put the decal on.
He told me to take my time and start from the top sqweezing the water out towards the bottom of the screen and I will end up with a bit at the top that will need trimming with a blade (careful not to cut into windscreen trim!).
So stupid question, but aren’t the backs of the decals sticky and won’t putting soapy water on it remove the adhesive? It should turn up tomorrow so I’ll have a good look, but I can’t see how it actually sticks to the screen with water and soap!
The method above is the correct way to do it. The back of the sunstrip is sticky, but the soapy water stops the adhesive sticking to the screen straight away. By liberally spraying the screen with the water, the sunstrip can be placed onto the windscreen very easily and positioned correctly. Once all the water is squeezed out using a credit car the you will find the sunstrip has started to dry and will be stuck down. Once you’ve finished applying it, it will need 24 hours for the adhesive to fully cure.
It actually really easy with the precut lotus one. A good tip if you do find the odd airbubble in it is to use a pin to puncture the bubble. Then use a spronge with soapy water to flatten the air bubble.
the white one is what you need for applying the decal.
I applied a screen decal on my last year’s winter shed
unfortunatelly it had so much rust (the car, not the decal ;- ) ) that it’s now running as a taxi somewhere in Africa… Now I have a 1998 BMW 320 convertible as winter car :- ) No decals so far…
Yup, succeeded and to be honest it was a doddle…even in a sling!! I did exactly what was suggested and used a very weak Fairy Liquid / Water combination mixed in a spray bottle and gave the screen a good coating.
Then I peeled the back off of the strip, placed it on the screen and moved it around into position. After that I used a combination of a credit card, a soft cloth and a sponge to press the water out, flatten it and remove any air bubbles.
After I’d done that, I gave the strip and the screen a light wipe with a dry microfibre cloth to fully dry it off. Everything is stuck down and it looks fantastic (I’ll take a picture). All I’ll do now is leave it for a few weeks as I can’t drive the car anyway at the moment, so it’ll give it a long time to cure.
need to put a new screen in mine and then need a new screen header but not sure which way to go.
How mcuh of the black did you trim off the top as mine in much lower down which I kind of like
