Lotus Sport Exige

Oi Robbo ! - I have you know that BMW Cosmos black is a perfect match - far better than that Lotus B81 colour

OOH ERRR, I’d Better keep me gob shut then

If one were to fit that Sport Exige bodykit, presumably that splitter would be so close to the road that it would be torn off at the first pothole encountered?

Every time I look at pictures of the Sport Exige the more I can’t help thinking that it looks sooooooooo cool.

Cicero

It isn’t a roadcar - fullstop

Yep, I know that.

A pity that the bodykit couldn’t be fitted to a standard car.

A pity that the bodykit couldn’t be fitted to a standard car.

But then you’d tear the front splitter off at the first pothole you encountered

If I were a betting man, I would wager that at some stage they will release an Exige with a similar (ie not carbon) body silhouette, but with a different powertrain - cost circa 55K -60K. Any takers?

Really? That’s almost new Espirit price territory. Why almost double development costs to canbalise your own market? It’s a lot for just a track car.

That really is the most amazing looking car that I’ve seen in a very long time. Loads of nice details. Spent ages staring at it on the Yokohama stand at the Autosport show… or was that at the other very curvy black clad model on the stand!
It does seem almost mean of lotus to display this car if they’re not going to produce them as it instantly emasculates (if that’s the right word?) the current Exige, which if I was lucky enough to be an owner of would annoy me a little. It’s kind of like putting your everyday hatchback next to it’s World Rally Car off-spring, it’s difficult to look at the original without missing all the bits you like off the WRC.
It’s not just the way it looks either - Yes it will be quicker than just about any Elise/Exige due to the fact that it has some very serious hardware, like Pesky says it IS a racecar. It’s the relatively simpler concepts that it has that the Exige maybe should have had all along to make it even closer to perfection, like a longitudinal engine perhaps?

All in all it’s a fabulous car, just unfortunately one that makes me wish that there wasn’t so many s worth of Elise and Exige sat in the garage when now Lotus has gone and made me really, really want this new one and they’re not even going to build it!

I think I’ll throw my toys out of the pram now.

This is my logic - could be utter bollox of course.

Sport Exige at show = 200K (only bit that’s “Lotus basic”
is the chassis, the rest is very high tech race stuff).

Existing S2 Exige (with decent spec) = 35K

Existing S2 Exige with supercharger (250 bhp) & other necessary upgrades (brakes/suspension) = 40K to 43K (my guess). (Somewhat limited market say 500 cars?)

Existing S2 plus supercharger (250bhp) etc, plus Sports body = 55K to 60K (Extremely limited market - let’s say 50 cars = high cost per unit).

To keep things in perspective, Lotus is now being run as a financially viable business, although it’s still not not making the huge profits needed to plough back into designing/developing/producing new products, without the backing of Proton. The “Sports Exige”, although a “flagship” model would inevitably “cost” (ie opportunity cost) a great deal in relation to any profit it would generate.

just for fun… here’s my spin… I reckon you’d get the above plus the bodywork needed to make it look pretty much like the car we’ve been droolin over for 40-45k… i don’t think they’d need to touch the existing S2 suspension tho’

I reckon they could easily sell a couple of hundred cars if they did that ?

Don’t overlook the “free” publicity that such super duper car would attract. Most marques have a halo model, which they don’t necessarily make money on, but pay for themselves in other ways.

It’s all fun, & a bit of crystal ball gazing

One thing’s for sure - it’s bloody hard to predict what Lotus will do, only time will tell, & I suspect much will depend on the global economy over the next 6 to 12 months

However, I bet that the supercharger option is only just around the corner

I’d settle for an Exige with the panels of the above car, with various engine options from current, to supercharged, to V6. Make the brakes/cage an option for those that want it.

Mr Admin

Why not junk that crap American bodywork you just bought, & fit the Sports Exige stuff instead - purfick

Pff… that’s so last month darling Mr Tom Hartley owns it now

Bitch

However… I plan on getting another very soon. (cheaper and with all the recall work done !)

very soon.

Just in time for Croft then

Pff… that’s so last month darling Mr Tom Hartley owns it now

…and he wants 200,000 for it. What only 280 miles?
