Posted about this elsewhere after I was bought it for Christmas but can’t find it. To be honest, I really didn’t study it or the accompanying letter from Lotus Archivist Andy Graham, until today.
It revealed that my S1 – No 139 – is the only one in the world that is Mustard Yellow with cloth seats – except now it isn’t, as the previous owner replaced cloth with sports seats.
Further details in Andy’s letter include the following:
Mine was 13th car made out of 79 cars produced in Mustard Yellow
It is the sixth out of 45 cars made in Mustard Yellow for the UK
Also, Mustard Yellow (spice metallic, in my case) was the 2nd most popular colour out of the 22 colours used on the S1
Apologies for being a bit anal here, but still dead chuffed to have the certificate.
There are two versions, I think, Ben. Mine was the £75 version (I think). I asked Father Christmas for it.
His agent, Mrs T, took the hint and after contacting Andy Graham at Lotus he talked her through where to find the chassis number
and from there everything fell into place.
It really is fascinating and I think all S1 owners should have one - however their cars have been modified etc.
Let’s face it, you don’t have to flash it in front of any prospective buyer unless it’s going to jack up the price. I think it’s a good addition to the car’s history file.
And here, courtesy of Tim, is my original post from Christmas Day ( I must have been pissed as I’d forgotten the detail I’d given)
My best pressie. Certificate and written information from Lotus archive giving details of car from the day it rolled off the production line. Interestingly, it was one of very few to have cloth seats. They’re no longer in the car, having been replaced with sports seats by last owner.
It just happened that the certificate of my Exige #467 arrived today. I’ve ordered it three weeks ago and also opted for the full version (75GBP).
Here are the details as given by Andy Graham:
Your car is the 467th out of 604 cars,
Your car is the 16th out of 39 cars in Chrome Orange,
Your car is the 14th out of 28 cars in Chrome Orange with black Alcantara,
Your car is the 8th out of 22 cars in Chrome Orange with black Alcantara in RHD (all for the UK).
Chrome Orange was the 5th most popular colour out of the 22 different colours used on the Exige S1 worldwide.
So only 6.5% of all Exige S1 are Chrome Orange. When seeing the colours of the cars offered for sale it looks like that really the biggest part is ‘New Aluminium’ coloured.
Would be interesting to see a COP of a silver coloured one.
