nice photos!!! any more???

What happend to the Elise GT1? IT was supposed to do a demo AND lead the non-world-record-breaking parade?

Always was a pile of shite

Was parked outside our garage waiting to be let out. Didn’t sound too happy when it started, but definatley left the pits.

Mite not have been as quick as the multi million pound Mercedes, McLarens and Porches of its time, but still sex on stick!

Sorry John,

Anything was quicker than that stationary disaster - it was, & remains shite on a stick! How many times in the last 5 years has it supposed to have run “on show”, & hasn’t?

No need to apologies, meant the looks rather than the racing pedigree. Which is a real shame.

Guess I’ve been lucky, as seen it running at full chat on a couple of occasions, plus one of the race cars with the right engine.

Remember talking to some of the guys at Lotus who helped put it together, proper weekend and evenings labour of love. Only to be outgunned by the Germans who saw GT racing as an easy target, when F1 was still unobtainable. Porsche and Mecredes budgets in the multi millions, recall a figure of 1.5 million for the whole Lotus project, including building all the cars, running them for a couple of seasons globaly. Then being stiffed by the rule makers on banning forced induction, hence the Chevy V8’s, at the ‘request’ of Mercedes. Only for this to be changed to suit Porsche and turbos allowed again.

The real shame is when Lotus do get it right - 300RR anyone? - it promptly gets banned for being too quick.

Couldn’t agree more John, how that car was only ever a one off I will just never understand.

Pesky has a blind spot on this one. We’ve discussed it on here several times and he is steadfast in his opinion. I saw them racing at Donington and, all right, they did not set the world on fire, but I still love their shape and sound and would love one.!
Take that Mr P!!

But what does Mr P know?? He had a Honda engine fitted after all!!!

Thommo - perhaps I should borrow Frankie’s white stick, & Tim Marra’s dog? I’ve been at 3 events when the damn thing was supposed to run, but it failed to move! As to the shape, that’s subjective, but the noise? Sometimes I like the sound of silence too

JDS - oi, I’ve seen your van!

I rather enjoyed watching the GT1s in period - at Donington and Silverstone in 1997 but they were battling the Panozes at the back really. They were going into battle with one arm tied behind their backs against the might of Porsche, Mercedes and McLaren but it was still an exciting car in its own right. The Esprit which preceeded it was a better GT car actually.

Anyway, a few photos. I re-sized them too small so they’re rubbish quality, but you get the idea. Sunshine, a few Lotuses and the hottest journey home you can possibly imagine.

Should have got an Elise Coupe!

Only kidding of course, Andy. Just wait until you do a trip to Le Mans

I cannot even imagine…! Sunday was painful at times.

That would be Sooze giving you earache, no doubt!

She wasn’t even there believe it or not!

See day 2 photos.

Would be interesting to see if Lotus V6 turns out to look anything like this!
