I have been missing my Lotus fix over here in eastern Slovakia so this weekend I took the family west to Budapest to watch the Lotus Cup Eastern Europe. What a cracking day at the Hungaroring, I’ve never been before but it’s a a great circuit. Luckily it was 23 deg C and blue sky so Sue and the kids were happy. An added bonus for a Yorkshire man was free entry
The races included the GT3 Carreras, VW Golf R and the Lotus Cup. I’m guessing due to low numbers (about 8 Lotus) the Cup race was part of a wildly mixed grid ranging from entry level Suzuki swifts, S1600 Ignis, Clios and Exiges.
The modified exiges set the initial pace but were overhauled by a V6 Clio. I thought they were wussing about until I noticed it was a proper space frame Clio cup car!
Seems the family enjoyed it, the boss even asked me why I still want to buy another stupid rally car, isn’t it more fun doing track days and racing. do I take that as permission to buy another exige
I will send you a PM, it would be good to meet up. I will be planning some driving weekends in the summer
Do you mean the new HELL ring track near Miskolc? My colleagues sent me the link, I was all excited as it’s only 1 hour from Kosice. It said opening in spring 2014, drove past it at the weekend, I think they meant completion of the planning permission in 2014! It doesn’t look like they’ve started at all.
I wouldn’t mind a track day at the Hungaroring though, looks a perfect twisty Lotus track.
Thanks for sharing that Jonny, yep that was a great battle they were having…but which was better, the S1 or S2? Oh hang on, you’re happy either way now!
