Lotus Carlton

I hope this doesn’t contravene the rules but I thought I’d like to share this . . . a friend of mine (a dealer) is selling a wonderful low-mileage two-owner Vauxhall Lotus Carlton which I went to have a look at earlier today. It was of those cars that I just loved back inn the early 90s. Couldn’t read enough about them and was gobsmacked whenever I saw one.
Just wondered if anyone else shared my enthusiasm for them.
My pal’s car is a 26,000 miler, completely unadulterated. If any one fancies it, I can put you in touch! :smiley:

Yeah love the old Millennium Falcon , haven’t seen one on the road for years , must be a real collectors car now .

Worked on these as they first came out. Just bonkers things!!

Heard lots of stories about why they came about, and some of the ridiculous things that were done with them during development, and later when owners got hold of them. And sadly some scary stories about rust and cracking rear bulkheads now :frowning:

Can’t remember which magazine did the article, but they borrowed the mint one from the Vauxhall museum to compare to an AMG of some sort, and the V10 M5 when it first came out. Do remember it still gave them a kicking 10 years later!! :clap:

A true Cosworth eater back in the day .
Traffic cops campained against them if I remember correctly .

I always fancied one but the righttime (financial and circumstances) never materialised.
Had to make do with a widowmaker Avon Sunbeam

My mate’s dad was a Vauxhall dealer and had a Lotus Carlton for two years and he once gave me a lift home in it, but sadly did not hit 170+ on the way.

Should have gone to “Seanspeeders” :wink:

But wasn’t that ‘only’ 168 mph ??

I remember doing a trackday at Croft in 1998, I had an Escos and in a straight line the Carlton left me but on the corners it could hardly keep on the track and the Escos was never the best handling car in the world, I remember an Esprit GT3 was the best on the day :sunglasses:

Lotus Carlton was a great looking car in it’s day but I don’t think they’ve aged well

My mate sold his Dads after he died about 5 years ago, he had a beautiful air con garage full of nice cars. I recall it had about 16k on the clock. Nice.

Would love one but no garage space {sigh}
