LOT Day 5th November
Thats not good… never heard of an Exige getting a puncture… are you sure you did not run over any CF!!!

You did more pax laps with me mate!

Perhaps you should have worn the white suit after all!
Its not effing white anymore - lying on the circuit jacking cars up, changing wheels etc

For the record I ran over a bloody great bolt (which probably fell off somebody’s car) that made a hole the size of a 5p piece in the center of the tread - went down in seconds

sorry to hear the bad luck, sometimes it happens, went to rockingham in my sport190, al fine driving up and on the sighting lap, drive the car hard missfires like a bitch pull in check every thing drive around all ok, go on track same again, loads of people look and decide its the coil, I drive it home gave it to the mechanic who rings me an hour later laughing, he pouinted out the error of my ways and not to wash the car so well the night before as i’d drowned the spark plugs :frowning:
Never washed a car before a trackday since

We noticed that at Donny Ade!!!

THats really bad luck… lucky it did not throw you off the cct.

My worst was driving up to Knockhill with the race car years ago. The bracket that held the coil onto the bodywork snapped breaking the connections cutting the engine on the 1st lap of qualifying.

Didn’t get my 3 laps in so couldn’t race :frowning:
Foooking long way to drive, hotel to pay for etc … all for less than 1 minute in the seat !

Sorry Chris, unlucky mate :frowning:

Thanks for all the comments, story’s guys.

Suppose it could have been worse - could have binned it :astonished:

On a slightly separate note, how much are people paying for rear tyres - A048 or R888. Not bought tyres for a couple of years and was suprised how much a new rear was. Didn’t care at the time as it was a ‘needs must when the devil chucks a bolt on the track’

The worst I can remember was a DTM race weekend at Brands Hatch. It was a 3 day race weekend, so we qualified on Friday and I had done OK. All of my family drove down for the race on Saturday and with all of them sitting in the grandstand, my bloody drive shaft broke at the start of the green flag lap, so I moved about 1 inch, end of weekend.

Sean…

Tyres,

Bought a pair of rear R888’s from Demon T’s a few months back on a price match with Camskill… about 320 !!!

Amazing considering in 2009 I bough a FULL set of R888’s for 420 !!!

A good reason why NOT to have too much power!

You were incredibly unlucky today Chris. I think it was off one of those badly built Porsches, they were trying to frag us! I loved your car though, it’s a great piece of kit and it was good to meet you.

It was quite an action packed day. Two red flags, which I haven’t seen in a while. Those early laps were slimey and the track needed a lot of respect. The S2 Elise was off at Druids in the first few laps. Then the Westfield looked a sorry tangled mess as it was hoisted on the crane.

I had a lucky day in some respects. Just before lunch when the track was at it’s best I was going to nip out for some dry laps. Turned out to be very dry as the fuel light was on and no bars. I started to limp to the petrol station. Half way there the back left wheel came loose. Thanks to Rob in the S1 Elise for stopping to help and going for a wheel brace.

I did half a lap after lunch in the torrential rain and the sodding wheel came loose again. After retorquing it again it was ok for 5 grim laps. There were only 3 of us left on the track. I enjoyed the wet but it got silly when it stepped out on the straight in standing water so I quit.

I need to find out what’s up with the wheel, that’s never happened before.

Full credit to the monster 911. Still out lapping in the heavy rain with 620bhp! Good lad.

Wes

You need to replace the wheel nuts, as the threads can “stretch” over time etc.

Same thing has caught myself & Benja out, in the past. In my case, it resulted in needing a new flange, & bearing.

Yeah, fubared nut, stretched stud, powdercoat on nut seat, or on back of wheel

Thanks for the advice guys. The S2 run bolts and I’m thinking of changing to a stud kit anyway to speed up wheel changes in service. I’m also wondering if the flange thread is still ok, may replace that as a precaution.

It’s occured after fitting ali bell rear discs and new wheels. That’s two variables unfortunately. They were definitely torque checked in the morning as standard practice.

Doh - forgot S2 has “bolts”, sorry Wes, but the principle still applies!

Trouble is if the flange is damaged, it’ll keep knackering the bearing too.

PS Recorded the “Promenade” event the other day - hope to watch it after Srtictly Come Dancing*, tonight!

 • Whilst wearing my white suit (a la a Chrisexigegt)

I was disappointed that it wasn’t actually the stig when Chris stepped out of the car.

On the plus side for Chris he did get to watch half of the morning session from the marshals post at the Shell oils hairpin and chicaine. Not somewhere you can normally get to.

Actually I am the Stig - well when they need ‘fat’ Stig !!!

PS - The suit is now white again - vanish to the rescue !!!

I managed to record a bit of footage from the first couple of laps in the morning. The conditions were very greasy, a great combination with cold tyres. I had a little moment entering Druids but not in the same league as the unfortunate soul with the S2 Elise who mated with the Armco.

The highlight was passing the Audi powered car

Enjoyed that mate …had a blinder around Silverstone in the wet last month. What tryes and airbox for that matter are on?

Fronts were A048M and the Rears were R888 GG. A strange combination but the fronts are on their last legs so I wanted to use them up on the track day. I’ve got some new 888 to go on next.

The airbox is totally standard but with a K&N filter panel in it.

How is your new gearbox? What do you think of the improved ratios?

I had an iteresting comment from some lads in a Westfield. They followed me through the chicanes and decided that it definetly was a rally car with such soft springs and roll. Combined with the lack of respect for the kerbs!

It is making me think about changing to a firmer setup and maybe migrating from the Ohlins to a Nitron 46mm race kit.

Wes

Great control, mate, but… I still reckon you’re a cog too low on many of the corners  (Only trying to be constructive).
