Hi, im not new to lotus’s by any means, i’ve had a few s1 elise’s, two S2 exige’s and i own a 340r… im now looking for an S1, i’ve nearly bought one so many times, but have never managed to find the right car, the last time up lost my patience and bought an s2, great cars but not, in my opinon, as good as the original.
I would like to be able to buy an original unmolested car, with real low miles/owners etc… there’s a couple floating about, some of them don’t seem to sell and others sell instantly, are there some particular bits which you could’nt go without on these cars? ie. aircon, 190 upgrade etc… what should i expect to pay? any advise would be great, thanks…

With my limited knowledge of S1’s, they currently range (via LoT, here, PH & SELOC + Autotrader) from high mileage ones at �13500 to ‘mint’ low mileage unmolested ones at �23k and of course everywhere in between.
Insane dj’s S1 is modified and up for �15k, I’ve been round in it with him at Snetterton, I can vouch for that
Check out the ad’s ‘everywhere’ and do it daily, if there is one that takes your fancy, you may have to move quick.

There are a couple of mint cars on pistonheads at the moment for �20-�23k. Thats about the going rate for the best untouched examples.
Personally id go for one with decent suspension and the the right mods but anyways!

Seriously though, really nice original low mileage s1 exiges are dissapearing fast. i know people will say buy one thats had susp upgrades, verniers fitted etc etc but if youre after one out of the box finding one is difficult.

To try to answer Robin’s earlier question, when people mention suspension upgrades this usually includes stuff like upgraded or adjustable dampers + springs and stiffer bushes. As for ‘other mods’ this can be stuff like discs, pads, braided brake hoses,4 point (or more)harnesses and sports seats, quick shift gear linkage, ultra close ratio gearbox, sports exhaust + cat replacement pipes(naughty!), Remappable ECUs and fluffy dice.
The 190 upgrade kit was simply a different cam pulley and an ECU reflash plus it allowed the deletion of a few items from the engine bay.
