Hi Guys - just took all mi’ front suspension in bits and wondered what I should use on reassembly?
The Loctite or similar stuff was yellow and set like concrete.
It was on the bottom ball joint mounting plates and four bolts (fastening the plate to the bottom of the hub assembly) and the bolts holding on the stearing arms
Any Ideas what I should use when putting it all back together??
The yellow stuff is an anti-corrosion compound - Duralac MSDS which is there because alloy and metal dont like each other when mixed with water and salt …
You can get that stuff from a dealer ( expensive ) or from boating places etc
Dont forget that bolts that go into the alloy uprights should all have Permabond 131 or similar applied - thats also to stop the bolt corroding in the alloy and destroying the thread - That stuff is also available in small bottles from a dealer or off the web … or from RS etc

Cheers Andy - Ill have a poke round on the web for some
mhaney
can you post up if you find it on the web I looked for Permabond A131 a while back but couldn’t find it, so my front brake caliper is prolly seized onto the hub carrier now

Andy - why this product - just loked it up and it states that it is a pipe sealing product:
“Permabond A131 is an anaerobic adhesive designed to seal threaded metal pipe connections carrying a wide variety of gases and liquids, including potable water.”
I have asked about elsewhere and the other suggestion was just coppaslip instead of Duralac
If Duralac is the correct item then its not that expensive.
Trying to look up a datasheet on Copaslip but all I can fin is:
“COPASLIP also provides protection from electrolysis, which can cause seizing of the thread and stripping when dissimilar elements, such as steel bolts in aluminum blocks or steel spark plugs in aluminum heads, are in contact with each other. Simultaneously, the copper content acts as a superior electronic conductor.”

Well its just that the service manual quotes it
I guess they see that it acts as a “lock” and at the same time protects against corrosion …
I have used 577 as well - got it from RS - one bottle is about 17 quid - if you need some PM me.
