Living with an Exige S "take 2"

Posted this in the wrong forum earlier but now its in the correct one…
Seriously considering changing my S2 111S for an exige and test drove a normally aspirated version and an S courtesy of Christopher Neil. My question is does anyone here use an Exige S as an everyday car and if so how do they get on noise wise. Im not averse to a noisy car indeed did 65000 miles in an S1 Elise with a sports exhaust but thats a different sound to a supercharger behind your head.

I’ve done 13k miles in 12 months in my 240R without an issue, the supercharger whine only kicks in when you push the car on a cruise or about town you’d never know it’s there.

I agree, the charger only whines under load. In normal driving you will never hear it. I use mine nearly everyday, the noises from the roof are worse than the charger (which i actually like)

Have to agree with South 240R and Bruh_la I have had Elise S1/S2 (including 111R) and now have an Exige S and while you can hear the supercharger after a while you don’t really notice it. I don’t use mine everyday but I do use it fairly regularly including commuting to work occasionally

I use mine almost every day and love that supercharger whine (takes all sorts!). But seriously, one of the best things about the S is that you don’t have to rev the sphericals off it to make decent progress. The torque will carry you ANY incline in 6th gear just by pressing the right-hand pedal a bit harder.

But, when you DO cane it - yehaaaa - brilliant fun as well.

I’ve gotta say as an everyday car it is causing me some issues with the noise - I came from a modded VXT with a Miltek exhaust and it was so much quieter being a lazy 2 litre lump with loads of instant torque and no need to rev it beyond 5.5K - in comparison, the Exige S is so much noisier and holding 90 leptons on the m/way becomes very tiresome. I wouldn’t mind but the noise isn’t that great, obviously the Sports exhaust (when it eventually arrives) will improve things when ragging it but I doubt there will much difference when cruising.

It’s really difficult as the handling is sublime and the look of the car is so much better than the VX but…in the VX I could peel the soft top off to enjoy sunny days and not have to suffer bleeding ears on long runs.

Should invest in some foam ear plugs, makes motorways much more enjoyable if you have to use them !

Considered doing a soft top conversion, 300 pounds for a second hand top + a couple of cheap plastic parts + some diy time. At least you could leave the hard top at home and soft top in the boot.

Roof off also seems to quieten down the noise from the engine.

Both problems solved !

I use my Exige S as an everyday car and have covered 11k miles in the last year. To be honest the noise is the last thing I’ve thought about. I had an S2 Elise Type 49 before this car and it was about 10 times more noisy on the motorway (probably because it was revving twice as much at the equivalent speed of the Exige S!!!)

The supercharger is hardly noticeable. If you want to experience noise then get a Ducati 916 with carbon termigonis on!
