Lightest forged alloy wheels for Exige

Just wanna give an update on what’s available from the other side of the planet. I’ve invested in a set of forged aluminium wheels from TMR Japan

Specs:
Fronts 7.0J x 16 ET7 5.5kg
Rears 8.5J x 17 ET5 7.0kg

I weighed them myself to double check the manufacturer’s claim. These are 14kgs lighter than the rimstocks in total (maybe a bit lighter than the Speedlines, waiting to find out).

Forged ally wheels are strong, without the potential corrosion problem as with mags. I don’t understand why this technology is not popular among the UK wheel manufacturers. Forged wheels have been popular in US and Asia for years.

The price is probably comparable to the Speedline mags for those living outside the UK, after accounting for shipping costs and potential group buy discounts

Can’t wait to put them onto my car…
(the blue on the outer rim is just protection film)

And I found these pics in the Japanese websites:

Those look amazingly good!

There are people here in the UK that specialize in importing wheels from wherever, but they hadn’t found those.
What’s the model? so I can ask if they can get them.

Visit here for details: http://www.tmr-eng.com/

(You can use a google webpage translator if you want to know what they sell. Their latest creations include scissors doors and S2 Sport Exige style front spoiler)

The wheel model is FSL002.

The owner speaks fluent English, but I think it’s better not to contact him for another week or so as he’s away/busy.

I will buy these for my Exige. Special made BBS Motorsport GT magnesium wheels. I’m not sure about the weight but they are lightweight

Porker rims???

BBS makes nice robust wheels. Are you going to get them to custom make Exige wheels for you? Don’t think they make wheels in Exige spec.

I sell BBS wheels myself. The BBS GT Motorsport wheel are 3 piece wheel and you can get any specifikation that you want on these. The price is about 700 EUR net each

That’s good to know! (Not cheap though!)

Can’t wait to see them

700 EUR each !!! Ouch

Oh, btw, the Japanese wheels can come in any colour you want. You can have it all matt black, gold + polished outer rim, scandal green, or probably even gold plated (subject to extra charge)

hubert

they look excellent.

Nice wheels how much are they by the time they are sent (TMR Japan ones)

Hubert

can you post up more details about these?

like:

cost for wheels + cost of shipping
what the arrangements were like for getting them - how long, how many phone cals etc…
and where are you ?(as in where did the wheels get shipped to)

sorry bout all the q’s but these look like a nice option.

I must be in the minority here then, as I think the chrome bit round the outside spoils them some what. If they were all black then cool, but they look a little bling to me.

No I’m with you fella. They work ok on an orange car but on my black car they would look too bling.

From an aesthetic perspective I think the Speedlines really suit the Exige. On a black car like they would really look menacing…but alas procuring some will have to wait,…other going faster mods planned first

yeh but guys… they can do them in black without the polished edge

Good point Rox - ok I am convinced - if we can negotiate a ridiculous level of group discount I’m in

Better picture !!

They look great Andy ,…I see what she means about looking agressive

The list price for these wheels is 300,000yen. The actual price would depend on the level of discount. I think David has already emailed TMR, maybe you can check with him.

My wheels were shipped from Japan to Hong Kong via SAL freight, which is the cheapest form of air freight and the wheels took about 10 days to deliver. I paid 20,000yen for shipping.

Of course, there’s the additional VAT for those in UK, but I’m sure there’re ways to reduce the tax somewhat.

Hope this helps
