Leaky hardtop

My S2 has developed leaks above both doors towards the rear. Roof lining above the window is soaking. I read somewhere a while ago that is due to a seal gone round the S/C intake vent on the roof, mositure seeping in & gravity finding it way between the roof shell & the lining to the edges of the roof where it meets the rear clam.

Anyone any ideas? Tried SELOC a while ago & not a sausage. Their TECHWIKI has no info either.

Cheers

It’s probably of little help but my old Elise had a hardtop fitted to it a few months after I’d taken delivery of the car. Apparently they had to fiddle with the windows (dropping them down I think) to get it to fit properly.

Sticking my neck out, is it possible that your windows need re-aligning? Do the windows wobble in the door frame when the door is open? Can you wobble them with you hand?

Might be a job for a dealer if you have one local to you.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Sounds like exactly what you said, my old exige S used to do it. I would remove the roof and use a smallish paint brush taped on the end of a long tube to smear silicone down the inside edges from the rear opening.

Boothy

i agree with boothy, i did this and silconed greased all the seals and it worked perfectly, but the windows is also a very good point they do need doing also,

I adjusted both windows on my S1.I had to take off the door trims to do it and it took ages but it worked.

Don’t want to worry you but my 1st s2 exige s did this and it turned out to be a cracked roof, you obviously couldn’t see it from the outside but nonetheless it was cracked and leaked like Neil from the Young Ones shoe with a hole in it.

Good bit of KY Jelly will do the trick on the seals.Lotus tells me to do it all the time i wash it. Does not look right buying it from the shops and saying its for my car.

I reckon you started this whole thread just to ease your guilty secret of regularly buying KY !

Oi it was not me that started this thread lol

I can clearly state i have no use for KY…i prefer vaseline!

Not had a chance to whip the roof yet & start the sealant exercise. Thanks for the advice though gents.

Finally got the chance to have the roof off & try to sort this. Car has been stood for 3 weeks & the passenger floor mat is soaked (iced solid truth be told & i have ice on inside of all glass). Roof is off & i’m having a good old go with the sealant.
One thing i have noticed after reading a SELOC thread or two is after taking the mesh panel & surround off the short roof scoop there is a blanking plate behind completely sealing the roof scoop behind the mesh. Huh?
