This month’s EVO has details of a secret report on why K-series are failing. It basically blames tuners for fitting unbalanced steel crankshafts and flywheels as replacements for the iron ones. The poor balancing put huge loads on the bearings. They also claim the vibrations effects alternators, pumps, etc [they didn’t mention engine mounts]Apparently a std (well balanced) iron crank is good for 9200rpm & 300bhp!Long bolt replacements were also questioned. They can cause ‘hot spots’ in the block.Ian
There some imformative comments on the Lotus 7 club page reagding this topic by owner of “K” series engines well on the way to 250 bhpR300 NUT [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/cool.gif[/image]
