Lazy feet - so much time lost

After spending some time with Sean and Mike I’ve been looking at data and how transitions can be speeded up to gain time.

Looking at the data is one thing, but I found it easier to understand once I had some footage of my current technique.

This is a one minute video that shows how slow my transitions are, some bad habits and the coasting I do from time to time on corner approach.

All good learning and helps put in the mind what to work on to improve overall laps times.

Any constructive feedback is welcome

The video wont load, its obviously even slower than your feet mate!!!

My Mrs was slow on the pedals at a track day she did in my old S2, scared the shit out of me. Mind you a few pointers later and she is now a heel and toe queen.

I think the basic rule of thumb is, if your not flat on the throttle, you should be moshing the brake pedal, there isn’t much of a grey area.

Anyway mate with your fat plates of meat you should be able to press both pedals at the same time surely?

Indeed!!!

Video loads ok mate, 16 views so far.

Contrast it with a recent video from Sean Edwards…

Will look later buddy…Downloading a huge file this morning, launch codes from NORAD on the work computer, nothing else seems to work!

Dont know about anyone else, but blimey, something about that video made me properly dizzy…

Ill leave it to the experts to pass comment, but I will proffer this lil video though:

Blame that video (and all those Audi ones with Walter Rorhl), for giving me a bit of a foot fetish, just cant seem to get enough of pedal boxes… :-p

(PS. I know it’s been a while, but my oh my - isn’t everything sparkly and new round here!)

Welcome back David

Hi ya David, past your driving test yet?

Have indeed mate , already on my second car actually :stuck_out_tongue:

OK someone on another forum suggested a footrest next to the clutch pedal to help the resting position being nearer.

Seems a sensible suggestion so has anyone done this or got any pointers for kit? Not so much the rests as they are easily available, I mean the mounting.

Clutch footrest comes standard on an S1 mate, maybe you should upgrade!!

In seriousness I couldn’t drive my car at full hammer without the clutch foot rest.

I’ll raise you 4 candles!

Just move your foot faster ?

Yes faster and a shorter distance

Mod the driver, not the car

I thought mine had a foot rest? Have you taken yours out?

edit: oh right, now i’ve actually looked at the vid you just want a deeper footrest. Fair enough.

I have a similar problem with my lap times, since I was 20 they have realy dropped off so I will have to look at this . I am sure it has nothing to do with the fact that I am now 7 stone heavier

What is it they say… ‘The older you are, the faster you were?’

This and the fact that I now pay for rebuilds, tyres etc!!
