Kpro mapping help.

I’ve got a Kpro running the Sinclaires conversion in my S1. When i had it MOTed recently i had a problem with emissions, not the excess HC i expected, but a lamda at up to 1.21.

To me that indicates the car’s running very lean, or the MOT station equipment was out. The map i’m using is a copy from a previous car with pretty much the same set up, but i’m told that it’s not unusual for errors to appear when downloading and moving a map. I really should have had it dyno mapped after the conversion. I’ve been trying to get hold of Wayne for the last couple of weeks but he’s flat out and hasn’t had chance to get back to me.

I’m cautious of running the car properly till i’ve had the map dyno checked, and adjusted if neccessary, can anyone recommendation a place to take my car to so i can put my mind to rest?

1.21 is really lean, what equipment did they use to measure that with. Plus was the engine just idleing when you got that reading. If just at idle to be honest that isn’t the end of the world. What coulour is the inside of the exhaust pipe? Also whip a couple of plugs out and have a look, they should be greyish black. If they are the right colour then i shouldn’t worry.

I’m not sure off hand what equipment they used, i have the printout at the office so i’ll check that. The reading was at fast idle, 3-4000 rpm.

There is a bit of a flat spot about there, it’s noticeable as it’s at about 80mph in 6th, around motorway cruising speeds and the car’s a bit hesitant to pull away.

The exhaust looks black enough, i’ll pull the plugs and have a look.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

at 3-4k when driving you will be on a different load site in the map than when simply fast idleing at standstill, as you will have the throttle pressed further down (if that makes sense)

Yes, that makes sense. It’s cruising on light throttle at a constant speed that seems hesitant, press the throttle and it clears had picks up, and there’s not problem when passing through 3-4000 rpm under full throttle.

I’ve just a had a message from Dan, he’s able to have a look at it in a few weeks, I’m sure he’ll be able to smooth it out and i’ll just be careful in the meantime.

if you need it sooner you could always ask simon scuffham @ link up to have a gander at the mapping.

I’ll bear that in mind, thanks.
