…All my engines run to at least 8750rpm, most including the 1.9s rev to 9600rpm - on std cranks, even the hydraulic cam 1.8s…

Interesting, but I don’t suppose you’ve got any power charts to prove that have you ? Or even some engines out on track days blatting round that people could see and hear. Tell me where and I’ll go along and have a look.

So that’s the end of this thread then is it ? No answers from Simon as usual.
Actually Bernard my father had a stroke at the back end of november, and another 10 days before christmas, havn’t seen anyone except him and hospital staff since.
plenty to answer dva’s nonsense when I have time to write it out, but in short there are several reasons NOT to use the standard DAMPER, chief amongst them - it is not designed to work above 7000 rpm.

OK Simon, sorry to hear about your father. It’s a stressful time, hope he makes a good recovery.
I’m also sorry to hear about your Dad Simon, perhaps when your able to reply you will be kind enough to tell us where we can (hear) see some of your engines.
Yes i’m a newbee and i’ve enjoyed reading this thread, and look forward to reading the merits of both you engine makers/breakers in the not too distant future.
However going back to the original question (well nearly) if the VHPD K engine produces 190bhp what do you need to do to get 220/230bhp or even 250bhp and what cost would you expect to pay (a) materials and (b) materials and labour? Preferably without having to rev the nuts off it, I may change my mind on that if the sound is good, however the car must still be able to drive to the MOT station and pass the emission test!
I am very very happy with my 1.8 from Simon. Its revs to 9,500rpm, with absolute ease, and sounds like it is loving it. It is very nice to drive even at low speeds it hasn’t got that super cammy feel that a lot of high power NA engines have.
I will leave Simon to talk about Power figures and costs. I will simply say that I was very very happy with both. Roll on my 2 litre in February!!!

Sean…
Its cool that your are happy with it but unless you are scared of SWMBO finding out can’t you say how much it cost?

I don’t know anyone called SWMBO, what does that mean. lol. Honestly mate I have no problem talking about costs, you know me, I always try to be open and fair and honest. However Simon has asked me not to talk about costs or power outputs etc at the moment, so I am simply respecting his wishes.

Ah well one day we might all get to find out, the years drag on as we get older
Sean will confirm - that all my 1.8s rev out to 9500/9600rpm on std cranks, in fact Sean has not seen LESS than 7700rpm on the datalogger.
Don’t want to get in he middle of any battles here, but I can confirm that the 1.8 k that Simon did for me does run a standard crank and is reved to 9,000rpm in every gear. Itsounds relly swet and I have ha no problems so far.
My Quife box is very very close, so when changing gear at 9k it drops back in at about 7,700rpm
Just to add, the only reaon I change at 9k is becase it runs out of puff at 8,900rpm. This we are pretty sure is the Elise parts exhaust, which according to Elise Parts is only designed to be good for 200 - 220BHP. I know have a new exhaust and we are hoping for the power to hang on for a few more revs now. Remapping should be in the next few weeks
Unless I have missed it, have you updated your fascinatig story abt the building of your car?
And would you be able to update before season starts?
Particularly interested in your engine choice/s.
