Just got my dream Lotus today

Jonny, now there’s an idea for the next mod…DVD :stuck_out_tongue:

John, sorry I’ve no idea. I just asked MSC to have their professional installer contact fit the best system with a rear view mirror style screen and night vision capability.

It works when driving along normally, and also in parking/reversing. I wasn’t happy having no rear view.

Best to just give them a call if you want one

Who are MSC ??? I’d like to follow up on the camera idea you mention, or is the name of the manufacturer on the screen ?? I can follow it up via the web

Maidstone sports cars

Lol sorry Jas I built my own…Benj loved the prototype

Just spotted your message…18 months later :astonished:

You built what? A camera system?

There is no question the car needs it on road. The curvy shape of the car, low position and immobility of the strapped in driver makes it much harder to see behind you when reversing compared to driving a van or similar that has no rear glass.

btw, just having mounting brackets fitted front and rear for GoPros now  So, next track day I will have the interior SmartyCam recording, as well as choice of external front bumper cam or rear bumper cam recordings

Tip: do not mount the GoPro in the front grille and then leave the towing eye in place. Did that last week at Brands Hatch, and now my video has the towing eye in it :frowning:

Forgot how wide the GoPro’s lens is :frowning:

you can limit the gopro width, remember the sensor is many more megapixels than HD video is

Thanks, I will give the narrow view a try - not tried it before. But it will probably jsut be easier to not fit the towing eye in advance. I never have before, but did it this track day for some reason :frowning:

If you have an android phone download the gopro app to control and adjust the camera settings via wifi… Its a very good app and gives real time views of each setting change you make.

I’ve got an iPhone, and normally set the camera using the app (probably same as Android). But as I’d fitted it to a permanent mount, and knew the view was correct, I did not bother this time :frowning: Just to save switching on wifi, to save GoPro battery life.

The difference was I fitted the towing eye. Just a stupid mistake I won’t make again.

The video is viewable - just irritating to have the towing eye fully in shot.

Made the same mistake at Anglesey. Just as well it’s an attractive towing eye

LOL  Glass half full eh

Brands Hatch 31 July 2014.

In-car footage from my Lotus, with towing eye

Roast Pork - YouTube

My latest mod to my car. Added the Gigeresque slatted engine cover. I think it makes the car look even more aggressive and “Le Mans racer”:

(Picture quality is a bit poor as I used my phone for the image above.)

It has the same quick release fittings as my old solid engine cover, which I still have. So I can swap between the two at will in around 10 seconds (y)

Did anyone ever find out which rear view system was fitted.
I need to replace my crap system but have been unable to locate a good one with clear picture and night vision capability.

Looks great, I really like the contrast black spine and MS engine cover - I might copy that in a future iteration of my car’s livery.

MrBean, I actually upgraded my rear camera a few months ago. The old one failed due to heat. New one is much clearer and now has a heat shield. I don’t know the model of camera but MSC would know as they installed it.

Benja, thanks  The S1 Exige is such a stunning looking car

Usually not a fan of red car but your is EXCEPTION!!! Very nice!

^ I’m the same, there is red and there is RED… that is stunning

Umm, isn’t that a slightly odd thing to say when using it on track?

Personally I’d be looking to solve the mounting position rather than lose the eye; would be a shame to have such a great looking car damaged being yanked out of a gravel trap.
