just wasted an afternoon phoning companies to find my renewal was the cheapest i could get anyway, this may be of use to anyone in the same boat:
cci were the cheapest for me at £803, henderson taylor couldn’t quote as they have the exact same quote system as cci
reis were £1400, adrian flux £1100 as were a-plan,
chris knott were 770 but they didn’t have the free track cover offered by cci and if i’m going to cadwell or combe for the first time this year i’d rather have 6 days trackday cover for the extra £30
sky could have got it down to about 700 but only if the car had a tracker given it’s value,
manning don’t seem to quote lotus, heritage and footman james never answered, i got bored phoning these people and went with cci
info:
age 31, 2 years no claims, no claims in 5 years, MY10 modified 285bhp exige, garaged, low theft area out in the sticks, seloc member, cat driver training, social use only, 3000 miles pa
I recently had the same renewal dilemma. Matt at Henderson Taylor had been great for many years, but he is in the process of setting up a new scheme with a different underwriter. Unfortunately, my renewal date was 1st June, so had to seek out an alternative broker.
I’m pleased to say that Richard Hermida (Seloc member) of One Answer Insurance Tel No: 01323 481 443 sorted me out a cracking deal (obviously including trackdays) with an agreed value once verified by a recognised Lotus Specialist & backed up with photos (of the car not me!)…
I think this will (sadly) really impact Matt’s business, a lot of people will not end up going back once they move if they are looked after by a new broker. I will certainly give him a go next year as he has always been great but I must say Reis were also spot on for me this time and very helpful.
I know first hand in business you can graft your nuts off and bend over backwards for people for years but if you are not available straight away once they go else where and you do not always see them again.
Manning will cover Lotus, in fact they were considerably cheaper than CCIs renewal for me this year, but after a long time spent telling CCI they could better to keep my business I did end up staying with them for within about £20 of Mannings quote.
Give Rich a call at one answer, speak to him and him alone, none of the Hailsham numpties will understand. And please don’t call him a SELOC member! (It’s a long story). He himself is a Honda NA Elise boy.
I think matt realises his business is under pressure. He knocked £100 off my quote after getting a better quote from Rich.
Mine is due, just had my renewal notice through from HT and after reducing my mileage down another 500 miles i have a better price than last year but would still like to ring round. any others to add to the list of quoters.
I know people will laugh, but if your Elise/Exige is not modified much (e.g. exhaust and induction only) and not interested in trackdays - confused.com were about half the price of the so called specialists!
Insurance is just such a load of bollocks …
For the daily ( standard ) driver over here we just got a renewal through - 1000 bucks , there’s an advert for an insurer called Youi or something … anyhow they say you can save due to the way you use your vehicle, so … no commuting, low miles, garaged etc … and yeah after all the talk and form filling … they are double the current quote … what a waste of life.
I agree, after using my 111s S1 Elise as my daily driver for nearly 9 years and 130,000 miles and the only thing I have claimed on the insurance for was a new windscreen. and now due to, as the insurance companies say “an increasing number of younger drivers making claims on S1 Elise policies” they are all looking upping the minimum age for the car to a 40+ so at 37 I could be looking at having to park it up for a couple of years. I have already changed from CCI to another company as CCI stopped doing unlimited mileage Policies on the Elise and have limited them to 7500miles per anum. Not much use when i’m doing over 11k a year
