Jensen Button (NLC obviously!)

Not sitting on the fence then! Hard (almost impossible) to dissagree…

That will make painful reading for Jenson

Honda sponser the Channel 10 F1 coverage over here and Jensen was doing a “watch F1 on 10” promo just a minute ago … what is he - 20th on the grid ?

Anyhow how many people in the world that buy a Honda Jazz worry about who finished where in the last F1 GP

That will make painful reading for Jenson

Why, cos the truth hurts…

It’s a bit harsh I think. We all know that F1 is all about the car. If you have the right one you will be world champion if you don’t you won’t!

Button is no Schumacher, Senna or Hamilton, but drivers like Damon Hill and Jacque Villeneuve won titles because of the superiority of their cars - so Jenson’s day could yet come!!

Honda should stick with it for now and see whether Ross Brawn can work his magic again. With the rule changes next year, things could be more mixed up which gives the likes of Honda, Renault & Toyota another opportunity to close the gap to Ferrari and McLaren.

Neal.

I would agree with the fact that it is overly harsh, whoever put such a chip on the journalist’s shoulder really out to go and have a word with himself. It is very easy in motorsport to become disollusioned when the car is not performing as it should or as you expect it to, and if a company as huge as Honda, with all its mighty resources cannot produce a race winning car then it is a very sorry state of affairs.

I think Button has the ability; his performance coming up through the ranks of karting etc shows that he has achieved as much as the likes of Alonso and Hamilton etc if not more quickly and with less resources behind him. I think given a fresh start, with a car with race winning potential, we may see a very different man indeed.

I think Honda have a lot to answer for in their lack of success; not only in F1, but the likes of MotoGP too. Is it just complacancy? Who knows. There seems to be no excuses apart from ‘we got it wrong’, they have the money, the engineers, the resources, and certainly the esperience…answers on a postcard!

Besides, I still have my karting program from 13 years ago with Button’s name in the entry list, came accross it when moving house I shall always be cheering him on!!

Totally Agree, you only have to look at Buttons team mate who came from ferrari and was predominately at the front of the grid if not picking up wins when Schuy wasnt. Now if Lego man (barricello) was out performing Mr Spoon in the same equipment I would agree, but he doesnt. They are both where they are because of the car!!

Neal/Jonny/Gav

Fair points you all make.

However, if he were as good as he thinks he is, he would have (probably) been signed by a better team, & got some better results. Maybe he’s just been too greedy for his own good?

Unfortunately, I think he’s now missed his chance - hope I’m wrong.

With a reported 50 million in the bank he certainly didnt miss his chance. Even if he only has half of that he still got on the right boat…

Id settle for 10%

Isn’t he still affectively sponsoring the Williams team though? Having to buy himself out of a multi-million pound multi-year contract with them.

And I thought he was in Genesis!

There was an interesting comment during the GP practice on Sat (yep, i’m still watching ). Apparently Honda pulled the plug on developing the 2008 car very early in the season as it was so bad. So not completely JB’s fault. He should be consistently in front of Rubens B tho’
