Hi guys,
I’m contemplating what exhaust to put on my Exige conversion. Currently I have a Janspeed Roadsport on my Elise, but I’m pretty sure the twin tips won’t be long enough for the Exige clam.
I have been offered a Janspeed Sport Silencer that would fit the OEM look, but I’ve read it is loud and not trackday friendly, which will definitely be a problem.
What static numbers are people getting and do they accept silencer cans?
Another option I’m thinking of is cutting the tips off and re welding on longer straight pipes.
Any help would be appreciated!
I used to have one before it rotted out. It was not very noisy and not a problem, maybe I was lucky. I have a tullet exhaust now and that’s ok at Bedford.
Are they actually good exhausts? I feel the gases hitting a block and turning back on themselves can’t be the best design?
I think it could be ok, the gas flow has to change direction but that may not be bad and it’s trying to reduce noise in a small volume, it could be good. Lotus had them as an option from new, my car had one originally in stainless which got changed by a previous owner to steel and by me to rust. I’d give it a try, it will not take long to fit.
If you don’t want it and it’s stainless I’d buy it from you, just to get my car as close to new spec as possible.
… and I think a lot of the noise n an S1 Exige is induction noise. Down load a noise meter on to your phone and see where the noise comes from. That is what I did for static tests for Bedford. To my surprise my car was quiet on test and on track, i check with the noise Marshall.
when i got my Exige it had the oval tip and i got twin tips for the Elise with the car. I went to my metal guy and had him cut off the tips an re-weld them without any problem, cost me about 10€.
What I’m thinking is to cut the tips off my current Janspeed and weld on some straight pipes.
I want the look of the second image so might have to use a slight taper section to get the bigger diameter, but I don’t think I’d be able to get the spacing the same if I do that.
Currently I have an Eliseparts system on my S1. This has twin tailpipes very similar to the ones in the second photo, ie. plain, unrolled ends. These point slightly downwards in a GT40-ish manner that looks ‘right’ (in my eyes, anyway )
They may have changed the design since I bought it, however, as the current ones appear to be slashcut with a rolled end.
Yeah I like the unrolled look, reminds me of classic racers, vintage Let Mans
