Hi, I’ve been looking for an S2 and I’ve come across more than one which has had a problem with the instruments resulting in the unit being replaced (or the mileometer loosing the plot and going back to zero).
Is this a relatively common fault on S2’s?
One of the cars I’m interested in had the unit replaced under warrenty and there is documentation to show the mileage at repleacement, but as the mileage on the clock is always going to be 6k below the true miles and not inline with what’s in the service records, is that going to be a real issue going forward? i’m thinking particually when I come to sell on…
It wasn’t a problem for me when I bought my S2 2 years ago, with same problem (also at 6k miles) seller had documentation from Lotus to prove real mileage.
If car is everything else your looking for and has had new instruments fitted, shouldn’t be a reason not to buy.
Be interesting to see if others have experienced this too.
I bought a MY10 S2 in December from a dealer in Stuttgart, although I live in Zurich.
About two weeks in my instrument panel failed, as did the backlight for the aircon. I posted on this forum and another member has the same problem, a few others pitched in with their stories too.
I took it to my local Lotus dealer and they replaced it under warranty. They knew of the problem and even had the instrument panel in stock.
Of course, i’m still concerned that the residual value of the car will be affected but what can you do ? It’s documented in the service handbook and hopefully should I come to sell it, I’ll have an understanding enthusiast who appreciates the little things you have to put up with.
