Is This an Offer I can't Refuse?

Hi Guys,

I could do with a bit of advice re: an offer I was made on a ForceFed Turbo kit (GOLDEN GATE LOTUS CLUB - ForcedFed Turbo Elise) It was offered to me for 1500 as a complete kit with refurbished (still in box) turbo and all bits excluding oil pan and intake pipe (Samco?) It uses a piggy back ECU (Unichip) and my prelim research points in this being a problem; what is the general consensus on this system?

(Car is an 04 S2).

Thanks in advance.

Had a quick scan of the site (very quick scan). The intercooler wont be up to the job. I would be interested in how much boost it is running, as the standard pistons, rods, valves arent designed to be force fed (excuse the pun). I would speak to someone who had fitted the kit and have a go in there car if possible before you take the plunge.

Good Luck!!

Get a pro alloy charge cooler and get Sinclaires to remap your stock ECU and say goodbye to the piggy back.

Check out monkeytuner.com as Frank has been turbo’ing his car for years.

The ForcedFed kit came to the UK 3 years ago when an unfortunate UK reseller went under as a result (they struggled with the ECU map). Now that the ECU is remappable that should be a problem.

Its running +/- 9Psi, and whilst I’d love a go in a car with the conversion, thats almost impossible as I am based in Malta. Is 9 Psi a lot? (I know nothing about FI).

Thanks for answering the daft questions.

Stock Exige S runs around 6PSI.

With 9PSI I’d say you need decent cooling or your pistons won’t last long.

So you recommend a charge cooler? Or could I fit a boost controller to lower the boost for day to day driving, and install some sort of water/Co2 spray on the I/C for hillclimbs and sprints?

I think by nature turbo’s tend to create more heat than superchargers. The new VF turbo kit will use an A/A intercooler so you can go that route if you don’t want to go charge cooling. If you can afford to go charge cooling it is the best option.

If you look at the history of the forced fed kits in the US it doesn’t read pretty. In fact I think forced fed no longer operate as a company.

Looks like I am going to leave it then, Its great as performance/pound, but there doesn’t seem to be consensus that the kit works as it should.

As an aside, what is the justification for the pricing of S/c kits? R&D? The cost of parts certainly does not seem to be that high when bought individually.

The guys at VF have a turbo kit in the works and Sincs/Essex can do a tune for your stock ecu…but for mid level power just go supercharger…
