Is this a case of, you need engine mount inserts?

On the track, under hard braking and changing down to third, someone steals third gear. It often slots neatly into fifth. This was really bad last Friday when it was really hot.

Is this the often discussed engine moving on its mounts or does the linkage need adjusting. If mount stiffeners are needed has anyone tried the elise shop ones which claim not to be as stiff as the power flex versions.

Apart from this the gearbox is good, no crunches, the change is ok and shifts are fine under normal conditions.

Powerflex are fine !
Sounds like excess heat on the cables upsetting the adjustment … a well documented problem…

this one

I have the yellow powerflex inserts and still have the problem changing down from 5th. I have upgraded linkages too. I was out in the car today thinking that I must give Dave a call to see what he recommends. I suspect this:

Not too worried about rattles, just need to find 3/4 gears at The Bus stop.

These are the ones I have fitted to mine after hating the gear change coming from my S1. I also changed the gearbox oil, but that was more for cold start notchyness.

I did not go for the powerflex ones after reading about the extra vibrations and that the ES ones cause less vibrations.

Don’t believe everything that you read!!
Nothing wrong with powerflex ones, tiny bit of vibration at idle, that’s it.
No vibration probably means that there is still some movement in the mounting, exactly what you are trying to remove to improve gear change when installing the mounts.

I had the powerflex inserts fitted and they make a vast difference.

I did notice a small increase in vibrations but its really nothing to worry about

Edited to add I’ve not suffered the same issue as you, I chose them to stop the engine rock backwards and forwards

Don’t worry, I still got the vibrations after the swap, just not as severe as the Powerflex ones and they definitely solved the issue!
