Sorry about the newbie question… is an 177hp Exige S1 in any way better than an Exige S1 with a 190 bhp upgrade? There’s a 177 bhp one for sale and I was wondering why the owner did not do the conversion.
Thanks

I have owned a 190 and driven both, and could tell zero difference. My bros is a 177 and mine was a 190 and on track / straight line there was nothing in it.
Cant see it making any difference to the reliability although I await to be corrected, same with how “desirable”. I think my bro has bought a 190 kit for not much cash so its easy to “upgrade”.
As he said …
Most of us that did the 190 official conversion wished we had gone Emerald and verniers instead.
Negociate a lower price for a less desirable specification and spend the saving on the Emerald/Verniers …
Job done
Thanks guys. I am trying to sell my Exige S to upgrade to an S1…

What wisdom…you will never regret it.
Welcome to the bright side
My ‘190’ produced only 179 BHP on Dave Walkers rollers.
Emerald and Verniers then made it up to 191…

er hum 12 BHp for XXXX BUT you do have a much more "drivable " car Pete…how many more BHP from the new intake system??
My new catch tank will add about 0.000000025 BHP which will be more than consumed by the extra weight. WOW !
I guess both are like Richard Meaden once wrote in the EVO magazine: The K-series is “coughing and farting at low revs, hollering in pain at high revs, with nothing in between” - the sad thing is I start to agree with him At least it has character

Actually Clive it is now 202 BHP… the extra 11 coming from DVA’s head work… and yes you are right much more drivable!
Yes the induction is great! Probably got another .000000001 BHP too with all that nice cold air and a better noise too!
Please post photos of catch tank once completed too… I would also like to install one!.. Winter jobs eh!!!
I went emerald and verniers on my otherwise completly standard car and made 206bhp on Dave Walkers rolling road

Thats AMAZING!!! Considering the state of porting on the VHPD head! Natural BHP obviously courses through your veins!
Dave Walker thought it was quite good too!! I have the dyno print out round here somewhere.
Just goes to show, its ALL in the mapping!!!
Pete
It’s also important to ensure that the TBs are correctly lined up/machined to the head. Apparently it is quite common for them to be “out” on the VHPD. Also, they need checking for max opening.
Finally, increase your tyres to gain that extra 5bhp
I have trouble lining up my throttle body with the head!
Dave W chacked all of this during the mapping session. He did say that there was a surprising difference in BHP that was achieved from the same spec engine… and that mine had so little power that I would be passed by everyone…
That is my excuse and I am sticking to it!
