iPod connection cable routing???

Finally got round to buying the iPod connection cable for my Alpine head unit (CDE-9850Ri).
It’s the KCE-422I Full Speed Apple Ipod Cable. Bought off Amazon for a bargain £9.95.
It even arrived today - on a Sunday!

So I thought I would fit it this afternoon. I read the Alpine manual and popped out the head unit, took about 5 minutes.
The cable plugged into the head unit, all looking good.

Except not……

I couldn’t find any possible way of routing the iPod cable from behind the head unit down onto the shelf.
There are no cables routed through the bulkhead behind the head unit to follow, and no rubber grommets to push the cable through.
I removed the left hand access plate just by the door, no obvious routes through there.
I even removed the steering column cover, but again, no obvious routes through the bulk head.
By this time it was getting dark, so I disconnected the iPod cable, replaced the head unit and replaced all the other bits I had removed.

The car is a 2008 Exige S240.
Anyone know know how to route the fecking iPod cable down to the dashboard shelf??

I think you were on the right track. I routed mine down through the left hand side after removing the left hand access panel. Had to take it over past the end of the shelf and then back. Make sure you have it well isolated as the end of the bulkhead/shelf can be sharp and you obviously don’t want it cutting through.

Seriously? Can you hear the stereo in your car Will? Aside from being the noisiest cara the Donny noisy day aren’t you running straight cut gears?

LOL. Car doesn’t have a radio now. Went during the rebuild and used the space for the extinguisher battery/control box.
But back in the day when it still had a proper interior then that’s how I routed the cable.

Same route.via the left hand access panel. It is a pain and there are sharp edges

Same. Didn’t do it myself, but it comes out of the left hand end of the shelf - very tightly in the corner.

Ok, thanks guys
I’ll have another go at the weekend.

I have the standard iPod connector which came with the car from the factory. This comes out from the left side of the shelf. Since buying the car I have installed a 12v to 5v iPod adaptor to allow the iPhone to charge from the car and since then have also added a geniune Apple Lightning to 30-pin adapter so that it works with the iPhone 5 onwards. These are all hidden away behind the shelf.
