investment

It’s all relative though. In ten years time 100K will be the cost of converting an Exige back to VHPD spec

I’ve spent FAR too much money on my S1 for it to ever be an investment. Only way it’ll ever make money is if the NZ dollar crashes or the pound miraculously finds a way out of the toilet.

Esprit - you have one mighty fine car to be proud of and from all of the time and effort you have invested into it i bet you are pretty impressed when you stand back and say ’ i built that’

Fair play to you buddy, you’ve done an awesome job!

Yeah, driving it or seeing it parked up somewhere does give a certain sense of pride that money can’t buy. Just knowing that it’s about as close to a brand new Exige S1 as I’ll ever be able to find  I’m taking it to the grave with me so value is immaterial, other than ensuring that I’m adequately covered insurance-wise should the unthinkable happen.

For now I’m just enjoying the thing, it’s a thing of beauty

Investment in fun, definitely.
Will I ever make back what I actually spend on it? Doubtful…
Do I care - Hell no!!

Me too…though the price of an oversized burial plot is concerning, lol!

Agree entirely. Thinking about the potential investment value would only spoil the enjoyment of driving it!!!

My 1967 lan S2 has been valued this year at 37k , so that has proved to be a good, usable investment , it’s been a lot better return than most of my other investments/stocks etc

They have gone ballistic in the last 18months, no sign of stopping. I have an S4SE which seems a bit of the poor relation now but was more money than the S1+2’s a few years back. Strange how things turn around. One consideration is , when I was speaking to Randy’s dad a couple of years ago, he was looking for an S1 or 2 as they can get FIA approval to historic racing which the later cars couldn’t ( my interpretation, and probably somewhat simplified)

Your absolutely right, I know of 12 or so Elans that have been bought for that reason, the same thing happens to Moss box Morgan +8’s , which are bought for essentially the history, and the log book , big investment though , there’s one for sale near me 44k, people buy the cars, throw the gearbox and engine away , and start again , but the ‘rules’ say it’s Historic !!

Do you know how much a plot of that size will cost?! You’d literally have to sell an Elan!

Ian
