Hi to all on the forum, ive just joined the forum recently and have done more searching than posting so i thaught it only right that i said hello, i
m up in north yorkshire and have been looking at various cars over the last year or so weighing up the pros and cons before i have to part with my brass(you know about us yorkshire folk) .One question that i would like to clear up on is the tyre issue, not which is best ect, but are the 48`s that hard to find and are others ok for use?(read a post or two re insurance with non standard tyres???).Thanks for any help/replies in advance and sorry if its been done to death already.
Pablo.
Welcome Pablo - Ahh, the mystery of the A048’s, I think there could be a ‘limited’ question over supply and demand, but whilst I’ve owened an Exige (3 months) I’ve seen quite a few private ads and trade ads flogging A048’s, I think it’s a matter of knowing where to look.
Check out the ads here, on SELOC, LoT, PH and of course fleabay.
The 'other ’ popular tyre to the A048 is the Toyo R888, afew have them on here and seem quite content (me included) but then again I’ve never tried the A048’s.
As far as insurance goes, as long as the tyre is road legal and is a recommended OEM size then I do not see the problem.
Welcome Pablo. The 48s are reasonably thin on the ground, but I’m getting some fitted at the moment. My local dealer (Nick Whale) seem to always be able to get them when needed.
Thanks for the welcome Fatcat and Brendan, i can rest assured that when i buy its not going to be up on bricks in the garrage due to lack of tyres.
Hi Pablo, just out of interest, where are you based? I live in Loughborough but my family are in York and I am frequently up working on our Ultima GTR that we are prepping for next years Britcar with any luck. When I am up I sometimes have free evenings and might quite fancy a driveout sometime.
If it helps Iv got Toyo T1R’s on mine, since I have other track toys so dont intend to use it on track in anger, they wear well and perform well too on the road, on track they tend to overheat badly though. Depends on what you want to use them for I guess really and if you want longevity or performance I guess!

Hi Pablo
I’m in York, Exige 240R running on 48s if you fancy a ride out?
I’ve never had any problem with supply of tyres - usually get mine direct from Lotus Sport
