Why a plated diff over the ATB ?

Lotus used to fit a plated diff. I had one in my S2. It was great.
But taking out the box for adjusting on a regular basis must be for lunatics only ??
in all honesty, the plate diff equates to nearly a second a lap on my set up. its not to everyones taste though, difficult to drive etc. not many miles will be done as its solely a race car.

The plate diff in the S2 is set pretty loose. I certainly never had any problems while I had it.
