Hello, all. Haven’t been on here for a while - S1 Exige has been off the road for 3 years after getting very bad paint blisters one winter. Clams off for a respray that took rather longer than anticipated. All looking good now, but having sat for a while with battery out, the immobiliser internal battery has gone flat and lost memory of the alarm. Have spoken to Abacus alarms regarding a new alarm / immobiliser (Lotus really are a bunch of cheapskates not supplying the coding fobs from new). However to get me going and the car out the barn, can someone PM me the necessary connections needed to bypass the immobiliser temporarily please?
Thanks, Mark.
Hi everyone - had my S1 for many years and been lurking on here occasionally - and to my shame don’t post much
My S1 is suffering from lack of use I think, and, in protest, seems to have immobilised itself
Alarm works - battery good - checked fuses - car refuses to crank when turning key. The fuel pump seems to be priming, but no “click” and no red light on centre console. Tried jump starting to be absolutely sure about battery but no joy. Also tried bump start - no luck.
Is this possibly a starter/relay failure or is this consistent with the “known” immobiliser failure. If so, can someone please let me have the crib sheet for the location of the immobiliser and the “paper clip” trick?
cheers,
Stu
ok - able to spend some time doing a bit of troubleshooting this morning.
If I take the brown cover off the middle relay in the rear bulkhead, there is no movement of the lever on turning the key.
If I manually push the lever - the starter cranks over. I’m assuming this means that the starter and starter wiring after the relay is ok?
The engine didn’t fire (I can hear the fuel pump, but didn’t have time to check for spark). With my limited experience thus far, I’m still thinking immobiliser so will look to bypass by jumping the appropriate two pairs of pins. I could do with some help on identifying the actual immobiliser. Is it the M23T2? or is that part of the alarm/sensor?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
Stu
Bypass as planned and see if it starts. If it does, then the easiest remedy is to replace the immobiliser itself. Contrary to a lot of things you’ll read, it’s not necessary to replace the whole system.
Indeed, I see Abacus (who are Meta dealers) are now selling a replacement M36T2 with a Lotus plug pre-fitted, which takes out all the hassle of fitting the plug yourself…
ok - got some time to find the immobiliser today - got it free from behind the drivers seat - the harness seems to be VERY tight in the top of the unit. Are there any tricks to getting it out so I can fit the bypass?
thanks for any help?
cheers,
Stu
