Got in the the car yesterday, turned key, all lights on as usual, pressed button while turning to crank it over, nothing. Seems like the immobiliser.
Things I’ve tried.
Battery connections (manky, so I replaced them)
Fuses checked and all ok.
Relays (ones in cabin swapped about)
Disconnecting the -ve terminal and reconnecting after various times.
Rocked it in second to see if motor stuck.
Alarm flashes and stuff ok.
Just wont go anymore…wasted a nice weekend of driving trying to fix the b**stard thing. It’s like having a Caterham all over again. At least that didn’t have an alarm, i just took the steering wheel with me.
Can I bypass the immobiliser box, how? Where is it?
Any help on this will be appreciated. (As I’m really pissed off)
I’ll go through it again, try all combos. I’m going to swap the battery and check the starter motor this evening when its not 3gzillion degrees in the garage.
The car probably had your best interests at heart not starting on a day like today - just got back from teh SELOC meet up and Sunday traffic coming back into town …woh now that is hot think I sweated off about half a stone…
Swapped battery, no joy
Starter motor was tested and spins ok.
I have taken the seats out, and back panel. All the wires seem to be ok going into the black box.
How do I get this heap of immobilising crap to work. Meta website is total shite, not even a contact phone number. List of local dealers, ha bloody ha…
Yeah tried that. I think the inertia switch just cuts out fuel pump, but that is working. Worth a go though, what with it being a Lotus and everything, they might have wired it to the horn or something
If I get no joy over the phone, it looks from the wiring diagram that the immobiliser overides the starter and the coil by cutting the signal. I guess if I sit there with my multimeter and a bit of patience I should be able to find which ones to splice together. Even if I get it fixed without doing this I don’t have much confidence in it not happening again. What If I was on holiday or something…
I have had the very same problem and it turned out to be the immobiliser once replaced it was fine. I have a loop back plug that bypasses the immobiliser that will get the car going.
Got a replacement Meta alarm gubbins from Kelvedon motors. Very nice chap, very helpfull. Will be fitting it shortly.
Ooooh whats this Nyloc thingy then? Thought they were nuts? Do they have websites and things?
Been mega busy getting a new house ready to rent (as I’m evil landlord man!) and with other work, but will look over the weekend for more trackdays shennanigins.
Only been twice. Was hoping to get there in the Elan but I also have lots of similar excuses. Went in the Exige instead
It’s last Tuesday in every month at the Buckles pub on A64. Just north of Maccy D’s 60 + cars there from all over, even as far away as you are. Saw Pesky and Ducatiman
And no as I am the only Gay in the village. Just watching again. Put mi new discs on so am building up the toys ready for track action
