I'm giving serious thought to this......

http://www.lotrdc.com/sprint/

I can’t afford to race, I’m getting old, if I could afford to race I’d rather spend it elsewhere. My car isn’t a trophy although its very shiny, well satin and tbh the whole thing looks like a competitive giggle. The regs mention no whingers (that’s a refreshing statement right there) so I assume it is what it is. I guess I’d be in class 2, I presume I wouldn’t need a cage and what I have will do although I can’t make it out, having said that I’m budgeting for a 4 point T45 and I need a race suit. Anyone else thinking about it?

Sprinting can be huge fun for a relatively modest cost; you don’t need much specialist kit for car or self.

Have a look also at Curborough sprint course, near Lichfield ( www.curborough.com ) which is owned & run by the Shenstone & District Car Club and has its own sprint championship. You’ll also find that being a member of one club also give you the opportunity to enter other clubs’ events too.

Just down the M5 from you is Shelsley Walsh hillclimb; the oldest motorsport venue in the UK still operating. Hillclimbing is basically sprinting but uphill…and likewise gets an unbelievable range of different cars, from production saloons to specialist single-seaters.

Go do it!!!

yeah guy I work with sprints his westfield, looks fun

Mr Fox!

Do it mate!

Harvey, HT67 sprinted with his Exige S2 before he sold it to get his S1!!! He said it was great fun but also focused! I think Harvey still lurks on here… send him a pm!

I will be doing sprinting and hill climbing when done.

really looking forward to it.

Go for it Jonny. Just like single venue rallying but without the co-driver

I might have to resort to it when I get back to the UK as Gareth my nav might not be available. His powers of resistance were weak, he’s finally bought himself a…Lotus!

I agree with your thoughts on racing. It always seems hard to justify the significant costs of the whole package, for 20 minutes action.

A mate of mine used to sprint a Caterham. From what he said it sounded fun, but you got very little track time compared to racing or a track day.

Don’t Lotus Drivers Club organise a sprint taster day at Curboroughj?

Do it, do it!!!

A number of the Elise Trophy / Cup UK racers cut their teeth via sprinting and really enjoyed it. It is certainly something competitive that you can do in ‘safe’ surroundings. A lot of the sprinters this year really enjoyed the Snetterton round as this got the sprinters involved in a race weekend with all of the associated atmoshpere. Hopefully this is something that the organisers will repeat next year.

If you are interested in a four point cage, pm me as I have one removed from my race car that I could sell to you (Safety Devices).

I look forward to seeing you competing.

Cheers,

Clive.

No cage. You sure? I recall pictures of an upside down sprinting Exige.

Sounds like a great plan Jonny

Shenstone club runs an intro day…last month, unfortunately! But just go along and have a look, they’re not that scary…well most of them!

I think that was at Shelsley Walsh hillclimb…but not uncommon there

Btw, I sprinted my Exige back in 2006 in the SDCC Curborough series…and I have the silverware to prove it!

i hired curborough for an afternoon for i think 250quid, we took a bunch of cars down and it was mint

have been down to check out a sprint event there but it looked like a crap load of waiting around for maybe 6mins of actual track time per day

I did 4 or 5 events in mine back in the day when it was nearer standard.
Good fun, but always felt a bit short changed at the end.
Imagine an exiges.com track day with all the banter but only getting 4 laps and you’d not be far off.

It’s not that Will I just fancy something different tbh, I can still do track days. I only live and work a stones throw from Curborough and haven’t really fancied it until recently. I know quite a few locals who participate in mk1 Escorts but I’d prefer to compete against other Lotus and I’d also like to tour a bit as well as just doing Curborough.

I totally get it Jonny.

Why don’t we all do one of those HowFast events? There’s only one listed later this month (can’t do that one) but there’s bound to more later this year. It would be a laugh I think…

 Up for that Ben

Yep me too!

:sunglasses:

I’ll keep an eye out and as soon as there’s some more dates we’ll get it sorted.

Maybe we could combine with something else Gav if you’re coming all the way down. Another Donny/Snett/Rockingham…let’s see what’s about when some dates are up…
