I’m now sorting a CN 260 upgrade & also my Nitron suspension, so I’m hoping to be going round the track a bit more quickly ( although I accept it may not make me any quicker !!! ).
Ive read that I should upgrade to an Accusump or similar, to help preserve oil feed during cornering. Is this right? Are there better options?
Considered this myself…but in over 3 years of track use, never had a problem.
At Silverstone 2 years ago I needed to visit Silverstone Lotus during a track day lunch break. (faulty lambda). Asked the mechanic what he thought about baffeled sump. He said as I had twin oil coolers then no need. On their school cars they did have oil pressure problems prior to the newer cars that they now have with the twin oil coolers. How that effects oil pick up I’m not sure. But thats what the guy said and he looked after all those thrashed Exiges. As said I’ve not had a problem. Or am I just not trying hard enough??
More power coupled with more grip from your Nitrons puts you into potential oil starvation terrority
Will probably be OK but most don’t take the chance - new engines are not cheap - I guess it would also depend on which tracks to drive - most UK shouldn’t cause issues - Silverstone is the possible exception but if you were going to do the ring or Spa I wouldn’t take the chance
So general opinion here is that it’s possibly not essential then?
It is 1000 from CN, so if I don’t have to have it, I probably won’t bother. I only do UK circuits, & never would do Silverstone. Donington is my regular.
I fitted a G-Pan to my S2 and always ran a gated, baffled sump in my S1. 1,000 seems pretty steep when the part for an S2 is only 350 ish, its no more than a couple of hours work to fit one.
I fitted my S2 one before going to Spa after hearing of 2 S2 engines going pop following some serious Pouhon action.
Like Chris says a baffled sump is a lot cheaper than a new engine!!!
The G-Pan increases your oil capacity as well, which can only be a good thing.
I’ve started logging oil temperatures now too (G-Pan comes with a sensor port) and even with twin coolers and the extra oil capacity, my oil temps were up to 110 degrees at a pretty chilly donnington, last weekend. I know 110 degrees is fine, but I wouldn’t really want it to be too much hotter than that, and on a hot day I can see it getting up there.
Some use accusumps as insurance and others baffled sumps, as stated you do need to be pushing hard to risk oil starvation but both solutions are a cheap form of insurance. I have an accusump myself but other have baffled sumps or even both!
Looks like the same kinda thing as the morosso baffled sump. Simple and effective. I personally wouldnt worry too much about an accusump unless you are getting serious about tracking the car
The G-Pan is the baffled sump that Seriously Lotus Dave sells in the link above.
I did actually fit the sump myself Dave you cheeky sod!!!
And I am sure Wayne will be having a word with you, next time he sees you, about calling him a “minion”
I prefer baffled sumps to Accusumps, but that is just my opinion. They are cheaper, they have always done the job for me. Plus there is a train of thought that says the oil pressure and flow in your engine can drop when the accusump is being refilled by the engine and all the oil is filling the accusump back up rather than lubing up the bits it should be lubing. Plus I have seen some badly fitted ones that have made things worse rather than better!!!

JS Racing fitted my Accusump so I hope it is ok!!!
Been too many problems with the Morroso sump and the Gpan wasn’t out which is why I went for the Accusump.
Either will be better that not having one at all, but for simplicity if I was picking now I would get the Gpan rather than the more complex and expensive Accusump
Fitted the g pan in a couple of hours. The pain is carefully removing the old one(palate knife in my case). Look on sector 111s web as I think they said there was a mark2 g pan? Dave would know. Personally I can’t see what there was to improve on the first one
