How to validate an exige s1 is a real exige, and not a converted elise

Hi there!

I am in the process of selling my Exige S1. I is heavily modified (K20 Engine, Compressor, Sadev sequential gearbox, paddle-shift…) .
There are quite a lot of prospective buyers, but they all want to be sure that it is not an Elise that has been converted to an Exige.
So the question is, how can one prove this…?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Mike

One option would be is to check the chassis number with Lotus direct.
Andy Graham in the archives department would be the best contact and might be able to give you a letter to confirm.

13th digit of the chassis number. 3 = Elise, 6 = 340R and 8 = Exige. See here https://parts.bellandcolvill.co.uk/deroure?qs=1&preview=1&make=1&model=13&groupid=13132
The biggest, quickest, physical tell on the car is the wiring loom. Elise had single fuse, MFRU and ECU in the engine bay, Exige had small fuse box, relay box and ECU behind the seats. All changeable, but it’s not an insignificant thing to change over.

Thank you very much, that is very helpful! Mine has an “8”, so seems to be an Exige

:+1:
Making an S1 Elise, really, really be an S1 Exige, is more expensive than just buying an S1 Exige!
