I drove MarkPH Exige S1 last night at Donny, & it felt so planted & grippy compared to my S2, especially at the front - there seemed to be no hint of understear at all.
I would love mine to feel a bit more like that. I’ve got adjustable NTR dampers on mine. Would it be as simple as softening the front even more In relation to the rear? Apologies if its a daft question, I’m a proper technical numpty.
the bump steer is worse on an S2, make sure you have lowering plates on the rack if you car has been lower, maybe run a bit more negative camber?
I do not think however you can make them “feel” the same as the weight is different
Must admit, all sorts of crazy ideas are crossing my mind at the moment!
Initially though, I reckon I’m best to have a play with my Nitrons & see if I can soften the front off. Then I’ll have a play round Donny & see what happens.
I am not sure softening the damping will transform the handling. I think if you are serious about wanting a lot more grip you have to attack the problem in 3 ways. Firstly get the car as light as possible, not easy and very expensive and ultimately compromising if use the car on the road a lot. Secondly find more downforce, easy to bolt bits on but getting it low enough is again compromising and expensive. Finally in my opinion you need to hire or have the likes of JSR on a track day with you setting the car up, taking tyre temps and adding camber for maximum contact patch for that given circuit.
I had the pleasure of a couple pax laps at Oulton park with DaveP off here in his NA Honda and the difference between his and mine was night and day. Obviously he can drive an awful lot faster than I will ever be able to do but the difference in the cars feel and grip was also profound. No amount of modifications and fettling would make an S2 perform like that. My car felt like a family hatchback when I got back in.
I think if you want that kind of pure driving experience the only answer is as above, swap models.
Sorry, Or a stack of cash to keep fixing the faithful K
To be honest, a Series 1 or a Cup 260 would be the only reason I would sell mine
Now mine is just for fun and trackdays I could live with an S1, when I bought it as my only car I couldn’t have…
So back to original question, how do you make an S2 handle like an S1. Is it as easy as changing the settings or do you have to take weight and track into account? I would have thought so C1RVY, I suppose there is no hiding that extra 150kg no matter what spring rates or dampers you may turn to, 760kg vs 910kg. Can anyone tell me the main differences across the two chassis, overall track that sort of thing or are they virtually the same?
Its weight that kills the S2. I remember having my S1 and S2 at the same track day and the S2 just felt like a big lardy lump compared to my S1.
In fairness though my S2 was about 1,000,000 times more refined than my S1, so nice as a road car that occasionally did track days.
I have to say though, my greatest road drive to date was in my S1. Christian, Benja, Ian and I, in 4 S1’s from Brum to Anglesey. Properly going man. Got to meet a nice local boy in blue as well.
From the data I have read the track settings, camber and castor are virtually the same - unless I am reading the wrong info from the t’internet. The other big difference is the 100 horses between C1RVY’s and Mark’s i.e. faster down certain parts of a track. I think it can be better but will never be identical…
