As some of you will know i have ordered an Evora. As the car is intended to be a keeper i thought i’d add some bespoke touches to make it that bit more special.
So here’s the thing, i fancy a bespoke paint job (or custom paint as i think the factory calls it). Nothing too daft, just highlighting the lines in the lower part of the car, plus a subtle stripe. The main body colour is a premium Exige colour, not listed as available for the Evora. At the dealer when placing the deposit the motorsport paint price was recorded thinking this woul;d be the cost (2K) or maybe a tad more.
The stripe i want is up & over the length of the car, a bit like what you may have seen on a GTE concept , but fooooooooooook me, i have been quoted a further 2K
Given that
i set my heart on this,
the car is meant to be a keeper, and
as a proportion of the overall outlay it is not a huge cost
What does the knowledgeable collective here think?
Am i mad even to contemplate going ahead & should i just ditch the stripe??
Ade - i hate the idea of vinyl on car car, particularly a decent one. The idea for the stripe is that it will be very subtle which i doubt could be achieved without using paint.
Steve - no mock-up sadly. The car will be pearl white. As standard it comes with gloss black door mirrors and A pillars, so i am going to add gloss black to the splitter and along the sills following the ‘arched’ door crease IYSWIM. The stripe is to be one central broad stripe flanked by a narrow one either side, to give a triple stipe look. This will be in a contrasting white to the body colour. Very subtle & probably only noticable when stationary & close to the car.
Not cheap for what it is, am i mad still to consider it even though i think it will look the dogs
If it’s a keeper, a prominent stripe will eventually ‘date’ the car - it is a fashion item. Ditch the heavy stuff and keep the discreet detailing. And save 2k. All IMHO, of course
Go for it Tim - you’ll only regret not having the car finished exactly how you want it. Yep 2k is a bit pricey, but as you say, in the overall scheme of things…

So that is effectively the stripe scheme for what was the Elise ‘White Edition’
