HOW MUCH???

As some of you will know i have ordered an Evora. As the car is intended to be a keeper i thought i’d add some bespoke touches to make it that bit more special.

So here’s the thing, i fancy a bespoke paint job (or custom paint as i think the factory calls it). Nothing too daft, just highlighting the lines in the lower part of the car, plus a subtle stripe. The main body colour is a premium Exige colour, not listed as available for the Evora. At the dealer when placing the deposit the motorsport paint price was recorded thinking this woul;d be the cost (2K) or maybe a tad more.

The stripe i want is up & over the length of the car, a bit like what you may have seen on a GTE concept :sunglasses: , but fooooooooooook me, i have been quoted a further 2K :astonished:

Given that

  1. i set my heart on this,
  2. the car is meant to be a keeper, and
  3. as a proportion of the overall outlay it is not a huge cost

What does the knowledgeable collective here think?

Am i mad even to contemplate going ahead & should i just ditch the stripe??

Add it with vinyl after delivery for a couple of hundred?

Have you got a mock up of the finished look? Rather liked the one recently posted on seloc

Ade - i hate the idea of vinyl on car car, particularly a decent one. The idea for the stripe is that it will be very subtle which i doubt could be achieved without using paint.

Steve - no mock-up sadly. The car will be pearl white. As standard it comes with gloss black door mirrors and A pillars, so i am going to add gloss black to the splitter and along the sills following the ‘arched’ door crease IYSWIM. The stripe is to be one central broad stripe flanked by a narrow one either side, to give a triple stipe look. This will be in a contrasting white to the body colour. Very subtle & probably only noticable when stationary & close to the car.

Not cheap for what it is, am i mad still to consider it even though i think it will look the dogs :sunglasses:

If it’s a keeper, a prominent stripe will eventually ‘date’ the car - it is a fashion item. Ditch the heavy stuff and keep the discreet detailing. And save 2k. All IMHO, of course

Go for it Tim - you’ll only regret not having the car finished exactly how you want it. Yep 2k is a bit pricey, but as you say, in the overall scheme of things…

I’m with Pesky! Not literally, that would be gay, you no what I mean…I see his point

Yup I think go for it Tim.

Lot of cash but painted and laquered by the factory will be very cool.

Have you told Brandon at Murrays not to be a tight git and chuck it in the deal ?

Well Sir, you ARE a prominent Stripe - not sure you’re a fashion icon though!

Mike

It ain’t prominent, quite the opposite in fact and designed to look uber cool :sunglasses:

Decisions, decisions…

Thanks for the comments so far guys.

In which case, ignore me!

OR

OK, I’ll do it for 500!

Painted stripes , win every day !!! IMHO

Factory fitted stripe is probably worth a premium and with a new car you want it looking right from the get go.

Could you try playing them a bit and tell them you are thinking of pulling out due to this unexpected cost and ask for some kind of discount?

Tim , you’re only here once … Go with your gut feeling ,fook the price.
If you don’t spec the stripe you,ll always regret not doing it !

If its a “keeper” Tim, lets say you hang on to it for 15 years, 2k that’s 133 a year - or a couple of decent meals out… no brainer.

Fully agree

A lotus paint job lasting 15 years…now really

Stick with the stripe, chum!

So that is effectively the stripe scheme for what was the Elise ‘White Edition’

Can’t see why it’s gonna cost that much to create, but yep you should go for it!

Stripes (and decals) are the way!!
