Quick question, hopefully with a simple answer.
How much oil does the Toyota engine hold?
Trying to save a few minutes on the next oil change
by putting roughly the right amount in straight away.

4.5ltrs if I remember correctly
(oil coolers add another 1.5 if you have them, but you still replace 4.5)
According to the service manual it is 4.4 litres, with 1.5 litres difference between high and low marks on the dipstick, with a further 3.5 litres if the car has twin coolers. Seems mighty odd to me that nearly half the oil (the stuff in the coolers and feed pipes) does not routinely get changed…

and on the S1 (not sure about S2) even raising the front wont help as the pipes route over the inner wheel arch.
Switch to a laminova and get rid of the lot???

Pipes in the S2 also run over the front arches. You can easily get at the pipes by taking the arch liner out, but this would not help much with draining the cooler circuit as the pipe fitting at the bottom of the coolers is completely inaccessible without removing the front clam. What is a laminova?

I’m sure more knowledgeable chaps on here will have more to say on the matter but cant see the point in the weight and fuss of normal coolers if you can fit one of these?
I like Laminovas, I used to have one on my K series Caterham. I warmed the oil up very quickly and then stabilised it nicely. The main downside is that they will add a small restriction to your cooling circuit and also dump the heat of the oil into the coolant too so if your cooling is a bit borderline and you add a laminova you may need to make further mods (bigger rads / ducting). This is probably not the case for a UK Exige but may be a problem for hot climates which is why Lotus use the air blast coolers.
The standard S2s heat exchanger works in the same way as a laminova but its not as efficient, but cheap as chips.
Does the sandwich plate which connects the external oil coolers to the S2 engine have a bypass valve in it? When the oil is cold you dont want it being cooled further? Has anyone compared oil warm up times for a std S2 vs an oil cooler equipped car? I’ll be using mine mainly on the road so I want warm oil asap as my first priority.
