as mentioned elsewhere… no-one is entirely sure but 600 is pretty close
Think this questions answer should be a banner on the home site it has been asked so often … but … according to Alasitair Clements book ‘Elise, rebirth of the true lotus’ it states -

Exige - 2000 499
Exige 2001 84
TOTAL [color:“red”] 583 [/color]
Though I have heard 601 mentioned also a few times so I guess you takes your pick but either way theres certainly less than that around in one piece today

The last three digits of the vin/chassi number give you the production number of your car.

Although I think you’ll find that only about 250 have ever been registered for British roads.
Anybody got the stats on that? I seem to recall somebody dug them up on SELOC.

I own the last S1 made and it is number 601 on the VIN

I own one of the first, mine says Prototype on the VIN
mmmmm so his book data source is wrong … so is it 601 + prototype = 602 ?

According to the official documentation I got from the Lotus Factory, there were 609 Mk1 Exiges produced.
