How loud ?

Hello guys, can someone please tell me how loud my car is likely to be. Its a S1 190 with sports exhaust and cat by-pass pipe. I have booked a track day and there are noise level restrictions, any ideas ? Has anyone been refused access to the track with a similiar configuration. I think the noise limit is 105 db.

thanks for your help.

That should be well within 105, but not quiet enough for places like Bedford, where the limit is 101, perhaps??

Hmm, I’m not so sure about that mike.

I have a 190 with the std exhaust (albeit with knackered baffles) and a silenced (in theory) CRP and I’m around 104dB (probably when the baffles resonate).

Ian

Which track are you going to ?

If it’s Brands I understand the 105 limit is only for cars that don’t have an MOT. Which makes sense, because if you can drive it up and down outside a circuit at 105 then why is it a problem on a circuit?! I believe the MOT only stipulates a ‘reasonable’ level (as clear as a Jenson Button contract).

Ian

DSE,

Noise will probably be about 102dB.

I am doing Elvington (airfield for plenty of run off) near York. What happens if you do get told your car is too loud, what about the 100 ?

You’ll have no problem at Elvington - don’t think there is an official “tester” there

Done Elvington many times…never had the slightest problem with noise…probably because there are no private homes within earshot.

I have 190, no baffles left in a Sports exhaust and its de-catted…I also have the ITG filter which i think increases noise considerably again!

When are you going? Who is it with?..have loads of tyres I need to get rid of before moving house!

I am doing it with Bookatrack

DSE = David Emmett

It would be great to see some more exiges there. Currently the attendees are a bit of a mixed bag.

Can I ask a couple of questions that I know are going to lower your opinion of me -

  1. What is CRP ?
  2. What is ITG ?

Sorry if these are very simple questions.

CRP= cat replacement pipe
ITG= Type of air filter (make of)

DSE

Here is the ITG clicky clicky

No problem, everyone has to start somewhere…

CRP = cat replacement pipe - usually just a straight through pipe that replaces the catalytic convertor fitted as standard to your car. A picture of one is HERE under exhaust

ITG = is a company that makes air filters and in particular a high flow one that fits the Exige and is considered by some to be better than the standard Pipercross one(s). Their website is HERE and if you do a search then there’s a good thread on here somewhere about them.

I have booked up for Elvington also…

Pesky - i like to think this as my home turf and as such I’m the official tester there

No problem with that, Steve

By the way, where are you moving to - presumably somewhere closer to Elvington, & with a barn to keep all your tyres in?

Thanks for all your help, I look forward to meeting you steve . which group will you be in ? Is there a map of elvington circuit or, even better, do you have any mpegs of the circuit (or is it different everytime, god it is only when you start asking questions you realise how little you know ) ?

Any help, as always, is much appreciated

Actually I will be closer to Elvington - Wistow in particular. Need more room for the toys and space to really strip my old LandRover down and do a chassis up rebuild…that’s if I don’t get a Wildcat instead!

I’ve put myself down for the advanced group…only because ofthe other cars there so far and if Jonny lays out the normal course it has a fantastic long sweeping right hander on the concrete pad that allows the exige to gobble up the other cars.

Circuit can change a little each time but don’t worry there is plenty of sighting laps first thing and its best to build the pace up slowly in the morning and then get into the groove after lunch. There shouldn’t be a problem swapping up and down groups and if things get a little quiet after lunch it may even revert to an open pitlane.

Have a few videos but haven’t mastered converting them to mpegs or uploading (Im still on a dialup connection!)

You’re not the only Exige owner doing this. Turner!?

Looks like another exige has joined up to do the trackday . This will be my first car trackday (done about 5 race bike days), I cannot wait …
