I find that my Exige seems to be what i think most about in the day (Dont tell the girlfriend), i look at the price of anything and think what performance parts i could buy for the car for the same money, I wont add up what i have spent over the years on Exiges, when im not driving it im thinking about driving it.
I have it bad, if i tracked it i know i would be ten times worse!
How bad do you have it and how much have you spent on yours?
I have a ‘special file’ for Exiges invoices…two rules for the special file :
- Wife never finds let alone looks within the special file
- Never add up the numbers in the special file
Ok I’ve spent a loada cash on it, but :
- I’m not the worst (by a very long way)
- Its been VFM for the net pleasure I’ve had
- Costs would probably pale into comparison next to the depreciation on 4-5 performance motors I would have done if I had not had the Exige for 8+ years
- S1’s are appreciating assets
You need to apply the rule of explaining things which is to move the decimel point one place to the left. Find it usually helps.
My honda was great value for 1200
I think of my car as a hobby, to most non car peeps it may seem daft and it took the mrs many years to realise this, but as a hobby then its more justifiable
Oh so it’s a hobby that i have and not a problem ?

My problem is that I have too many hobbies (acccording to Mrs Thommo)Work just intervenes in my pursuit of pleasure.
I think most of the people on here have it quite bad, I just don’t bother to write down the costs, it seems easier that way. I will say however that on my s per smile cost regime, this is one of the cheaper hobbies as there are so many smiles
Despite my earlier comment, Mrs T is surprisingly understanding when it comes to spending on the car, although I realise my expenditure is nothing compared to some exigers.
I think her outlook is “What’s the point of having cash in the bank if we drop dead tomorrow?”
Yes a hobby. I also have the file. I’ve stopped buying everyday performance cars (just lately). Wifes great but not naive anymore. I have it BAD!
Nuff said.
BAD
LOTS
There is no known cure, so just get on with it & enjoy!
File?! FILE?! I’ve got a bloody filing cabinet!!!
How bad have I got it? Read my build thread… I’ve been rebuilding it for three years and it takes up most of my time.
I don’t have a file but i have got some sort of idea how much over the years . I mean did i need to buy all new wishbones and bearings + hub carriers this month when my old ones have only done 10k miles just because i want it mint , do i need 46mm NTRs when im no racing driver and the standard ones are plenty good enough for me? No - will i buy them ? Yes.
Do i get hard when i look at these brakes ? sicom-brakes.de is for sale Oh yes.
I have it very very bad.
Brand new Exige 240 PP in silly expensive burnt orange. Less than 10 months later I’ve altered way, way too much and binned the warranty too.
Oh happy days. Absolutely love it.
All three Exiges i have had have been the same colour , even the Dealer calls it Paul blue , lol
You bunch of losers, you woNt catch me spending money and time on mIne. HahAhahahaha
Not to bad I guess reading some of the posts on here and on Seloc. I’m just finishing up where Lotus stopped development
WORSE is when you have THREE files!
ONE for the car you were very BAD with, used up all your ‘excuses’ then sold it at a ‘loss’
TWO for the car you PROMISED the missus would stay standard… then destroy all the goodies receipts at the point of sale!
THREE… when you buy a 40k plus Cup 260, do both ONE and TWO above, and the missus does not even know you have it!!!
wow! you have it bad Pete.
