Horn replacement... Access issue

Have an issue trying to remove the horn on my S2 (to replace for a louder horn).
I have removed the front under tray and front wheel arches and can see the horn from under the car but I am unable to get access to the bolt securing it. It appears to be behind the oil cooler.

Any advise or tips, or do I need to remove the front clam?

I am not sure I would bother. Reading up it appears the wiring is a little thin and you could possibly blow a fuse.

Ah, that’s a shame.

At the weekend I got cut up by a guy in a large LEXUS on the M1 at 70mph, he just didn’t hear my existing horn. Missed my front by mm :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

That can focus the mind a bit!

Reminds me that I really do need to get my horn working again.

Since fitting the B&G removable boss, the horn just doesn’t work. Everything is ok except the bit where it connects with the two brass contacts.

I had this.

Double check that if you put the ignition on you can make it beep by putting a screwdriver across the terminals

If so it’s your brass wobbly bits.

I took the horn button cover off and reseated the bits and worked well ever since!

I’ve had this as well, with the factory fit removable wheel. Check it works by shorting the pins as suggested above. Check the push button works on the wheel with a multimeter. I then fixed the contacts on mine using a bit of copper tape from my wife’s greenhouse (keeps slugs away). I punched two neat circles of sticky copper using a hole pouch, stuck them on the pins, worked thereafter.

Thanks for the tips - I have some copper slug tape as it happens! Continuity is perfect on both sides so has to be the point of contact.

If you do need a new horn, I’ve fitted these to 2 x S2 Exiges and now my S1 project all with standard working harnesses. They’re lovely loud! :+1:

Cheers, I’ll have a look.

Main problem being, I can’t get to the nut/bolt behind the oil cooler to remove the existing horn.
