I have a Honda SC in my car and I was at Donny yesterday. Everything was fine in the morning but in the afternoon the car seemed to be stuttering during corners and then later on the straights as well. At idle there are pops (like someone is playing a little bass drum in there) coming from the engine bay and on the drive home the engine issue warning light came on. Has anyone had a similar issue with theirs. The car still runs ok but refuses to rev over about 3K-4K. I think it may be a fueling issue.
I had limp home mode when I fried the Hondata Daughter Board. From memory it was a hard 5000rpm limit and the car ran and idled relatively normally up to that point.
I recall someone elses car (no names) having similar symptoms when the oil was exceptionally low.
Plenty of oil, first thing I checked when it happened. I did have a spin at Donny in the rain. Could it be related. I have a fuel swirl pot and oil cooler if that makes any difference.
I havent had a fuel swirl pot before this car. Do they need any special attention or anything ? Is there a ‘reset’ for the honda engine like there was on my vhpd ?
Any chance you could check for any error codes on the ECU? If you’ve got the light and limp mode on there must be something recorded in there that could help direct you.
I can’t help with the swirl pot, other than maybe make sure both pumps are working, do they sound ok when power the ignition?
Hello dral. When I turn the ignition on I get a sucking noise which is new and quiet loud. Thats why I thought it might be the swirl pot.
Unfortunately, the guy who had the conversion done didnt get the OBD2 port connected properly and bought the crappy hondata ecu which doesnt have the usb port. Awesome. He spent 32K on the conversion, you would have thought the fitter would have put these bits on.
I’m ready to be corrected, but you should have a low pressure, high flow pump feeding the swirl pot, then the normal high pressure pump taking the fuel from there to the rail.
If you’re getting a sucking noise my guess would be that the first pump isn’t filling the swirl pot fast enough. You could try disconnecting the power from high presure pump, power the ignition so the low pressure pump has some extra time to fill the pot, then reconnect the power to the high pressure pump. If the sucking noise is gone i’d guess the low pressure pump isn’t working fast enough and probably needs replacing. Hopefully that’s of some help.
Bummer about the ECU set up, i find the USB link up really useful on my car. It might be worth the upgrade when you’ve got some spare cash, you’ll get a data logging option too with the latest K pro.
Ok, thanks for that, i will take a look and have a go.
I have just contacted phoenix motorsport and he says it sounds like a pipe has come off (the sucking sound). can anyone advise on where I should be looking for this ? sorry about being mega vague, just hoping a resident genius will drop by and aid a retard.
Generally a swirl pot will have a vent at the top (to let air out/back to the tank) return from the rail around the middle of the body, then the high flow pump should take fuel from the base.
Well, the sucking noise has gone now (didnt change anything, just seems to have decided to not do it anymore). Thanks dral for the advice but unless its connect pipe A to port B then its beyond me. Looks like someone local is going to be making a few bob.
