Honda SC Oil

Hello,

I have now had two recommendations for oil in my car. What do you guys use ?

I have had recommended-

Silkolene Pro S 5W-40
Mobil 1 15/50 motorsport oil

Any comments welcome,
DSE

Also, how much oil do I need to do the change ?

Thanks again !

You will need 5L of a top quality synthetic 5-40. eg Silkolene/Millers/Shell Helix

Thank you very much …

5-40 ? JSRacing are telling me to use 15/50 ? Does it make a difference ?

5-40 is the oil usually used in Hondas.

ok thanks.

I have always use a good 5/40 ( silkolene or millers)

I have heard of 15/50 being used though on charged cars for heavy track use.

We recomend Mobil 1 15/50 oil for all heavily tracked cars, especially Honda S/C engines, when they are not chargecooled. Oil spray jets work really well on cooling the pistons, but the heat goes directly into the oil. Its not unheard of to see +140 degrees C in the sump after a few laps of a circuit.

Engine oil is a bit of a personal thing, but I would much rather a slightly thicker oil film at high temperatures, than gain an extra 2 bhp from pumping losses.

The thicker the oil the better for old clapped out Honda engines from the black countries many breakers yards !!!

Thanks everyone for your input. Interesting reading and I still dont know what to buy really. I will go for the Mobil 1 as my car is only used on track really.

Cheers.
