Honda S1 Exige Owners - Show of hands please...

Hi guys… Close to pulling the trigger on a convo. Can i have a show of hands from the veterans with this type of conversion… no interest in the Audi (no offence but its not my cup of tea).

I have some questions but not sure who to ask. Already banged Quo a PM. Any others out there?

Many thanks in advance…

Me of course I can think of about 5 others although I am sure there are more…

Pesky is probably worth talking too, he learnt a lot during his conversion process.

Ian

I have to say I have one… Had it for … 2 days
But I am thrilled

Ahem,

Cool , any chance of some pictures

David

Yep I have one, mine is MSC conversion number 3, number 2 if you include SC option.

Got one as well. Non S/C.

Mine was the 1st done by Sinclaires with lots of help (and parts) from the Edwards Boyz.

Completed a day on Silverstone GP yesterday, off on holiday now but will sort out some incar stuff when I get back. (check on Google video for a few of my incar laps including the Nurburgring and Le Mans.

After yesterday at Silverstone I can vouch for the fact that Mark’s is a really nice job and boy it’s quick!

Sounds lovely too when it’s getting some stick, seemed to rev forever.

Maidstone number 2 here with supercharger. Well it’s actually back there having the air-con sorted.

I have the first S/C LotusPower Honda conversion.

What ECUs do you guys with Hondas run ?

Think the Audi uses the emerald but not sure about the Honnda.

First customer lotuspower conversion, and first tts rotrex supercharger conversion.

Most including me use the Hondata but Russ uses an Omex one I think.

Do you all use the K Pro??? and what other options do you have e.g fuel pump, alloy rad, oil cooler etc. Been thinking about the Honda + S/C.

you can also use a AEM ecu, a uprated 255 ltr fuel pump in your fuel tank which is good for about 400bhp-450bhp
and a oil cloor will help big time

I use the Omex - it is great now it is sorted. I think the main problem with the Hondata is the number of people who can map them, where the Omex is pretty standard GEMS.

Well having considered that the K20 doesn’t give you too much extra over a 190 K I can now say I was well and truely wrong.

During a Walshy day on Friday a back-to-back test proved (in my hands) one is 10% faster around his small handling circuit. I loved it! I’m almost ashamed to say it but it just seems more suited to the car.

Ian

Yes Simon you do, fair point. I suspect I just love an Exige with more power in the back.

Ian

…but the 190 is generally about 185bhp and 138/140lbft

best std na honda I have seen is 220bhp 154 lbft… so there you go

but… as yet published my mild [much milder than VHPD] cam hydraulic cam engine 221bhp 158lbft…do I make my point?

and the mech cam 1.8s are a big step up on that…

Not wishing to fuel this bloody debate again but it was my car that Ian drove. I don’t compete nor am I particularly handy with a spanner, like many my car is for trackdays and weekends. I wanted better tractability, reliability and a bit more power and the Edwards Boyz came up trumps and did a wonderful turn-key conversion on my car. I am over the moon and as Ian has vouched the car goes like stink and the character of the K20A is well matched IMHO to the S1 Exige.

I am all for having more choice, your engines, DVA engines, Audi, Honda, Duratec,…it makes the world (and the track) a more interesting place. But, the only way people make choices is to talk to people, share experiences and most importantly drive the different options. I am more than happy with my choice and in Ian’s case more than happy for him to make his own mind up by having a go in mine (have a go at finding the rev-limiter eh Ian ).

Why don’t you get someone with one of your latest spec engines along to Rockingham next month and they can spend all day giving the good folk of this forum pax laps?
