Anyone on here with a honda use a good ODB II reader and software that can report back all the usual readings from the engine/ecu. If this sounds a little weird its because I have no idea what I am talking about :O)
I basically want to plug into the OBD II port and read any error codes and ecu readings on my pc/laptop, is this possible without spending loads ?
Don’t you have the programmeable Honda KPro? If so, you can download the Hondata software, from their site, onto a laptop, then plug in your ECU - error codes/meanings are displayed.
I hope that the original owner/converter didn’t cut costs by not getting the KPro (the non programmable jobbie is a K100), as that to me is really false economy. I think you can get the K100 updated to KPro - no doubt details will be on the Hondata site, & via their UK agent.
Well the conversion cost 32K (he ticked every box) from MSC and I have contacted them this morning to find out which is installed. I am calling back in a bit to find out. I reckon its going to be the 100 as thats how my week is going.
I’d have thought upgrading to the Kpro would be worthwhlie. The K100 is basically the same as the Kpro but without the USB port so you should be able to get map copied over.
The upgrade wouldn’t cost much more than decent ODB2 reader (athough the reader would be useful for other cars too). I don’t think the update rate via OBD is great either.
I upgraded to the latest Kpro, which has a data logging feature inbuilt too. It cost me less the 100 from memory. The K-manager software will let you access all the sensors, you can activate launch control, adjust the VTEC switch over and even program for full throttle shifts if you’re feeling adventurous.
Did you do it yourself, where did you get the parts required ? Where is the engine map held, is it just a swap out of parts or does it need more work (map reinstalling, etc) ?
Please explain in an easy to understand way, I am not ‘up’ on this stuff :O)
Replied to your PM, i had a quick look on the Honda web site and the K100 can be upgraded to the Kpro, it’s a 20 minute job at a Hondata dealer according to the them.
I’m guessing they swap the plug on boards and the mapping is retained in the ECU (K100 and Kpro are basically interfaces that allow access to the standard Honda ECU).
