Honda conversion weights - The answer

Car weighed on Oulton parks own scales pre conversion was 725kg with full tank. Post conversion was 785kg also with full tank on same scales. Weighed it on several occassions and always got same result.

Only change was the suspension as mentioned. Exhaust I think is the standard one that MSC put on all their converted cars, nothing fancy.

Just a thought - when was the car re-painted, cos it’s surprising how much a few litres of paint weighs (I know it’s not 65kgs, but…)? Also, were the clams swapped, or repaired between the 2005 & 2006 race seasons?

With regards the “handling issue”, it could of course be due to the change to Ohlins, as opposed to the Honda conversion, as they were done at the same time (weren’t they?).

Just intrigued, as there is such a variance in weights recorded in this thread (& Dave’s earlier, but now deleted thread).

Yep, the car had been repainted and yes some of the bodywork was new. Maybe the original motorsport elise panels were a bit lighter than the exige replacement panels - never thought of that one! I know it had a new front clam, sill and door.

As far as I know the car was originally yellow then Kershaw racing Green, then Red then another red - must have 60kg have paint on it by now

So did they convert an actual car or something else - ie my orginal question - did you turn up with an operational platform or something in pieces?

And you changed the suspension set up totally?

Did they convert a car? Not sure I follow you.

I had an S1 Exige(Motorsport elise)with K series engine that was given a standard MSC Honda conversion with Supercharger.

The car was then returned to Plans Motorsport who put the body work back on it ( some of which had required repairing and respray as per my comment to Pesky). The dynamics dampers were replaced by Ohlins at the same time. That was it basically.

Then take it back to the fitter (MSC) and tell them to sort it out - you paid for a conversion thats understood to put arround 30kgs on the car, and you got one that put 60kgs on the car.

As for the handling - talk to SG (scaredstiff) spoke to him on friday and he manages to get great handling on the audi monster that won last years tunerGP. So if he can get good set up on a car thats got a much heavier conversion than yours regardless, then he should be able to help you if plans can’t get a handle on it.

I do want to stress that I am not trying to say it was handling like complete ‘dog’. I won three races with it so it can’t have been that bad! I just wasn’t happy with it in comparision to how it was set up before.
Maybe I was spoilt as originally it was set up by the man himself, mr Kershaw.
