Don’t regret it, it never gets too ugly on here.
Anyway I have a fresh pack of Hobnobs, so…

“Honda’s are shit, VHPD’s are shitter and Audi’s ROCK!!!” LOL
Off to find a tin hat…
I could bring up my embarressing love of Renault 5 Gordini Turbo’s if people want to discuss a car that doesnt work on the track/road.
Oh don’t get me wrong, I love Honda-powered cars too, I’m very objective about it. No question that on paper the Honda is better, it’s just that many people (not necessarily on here) seem to think that you stick a Honda in the back of an Elise and it immediately becomes twice the car, faultlessly reliable and unbeatable in every way.
Ian’s car is one of the first ever Honda conversions, he’s even blown up one Honda engine so he’s proven that they’re not completely bomb-proof. Even he’s the first to admit that the Honda’s no golden-bullet.
As for his driving, he’s pretty good. That day we were all being polite since many of the drivers on that day were new to the track so we were giving everyone a wide berth. He was struggling there with tyres and geo though, hence why he was doing a lot of wheel-work through the corner. My Exige wasn’t handling too well either, although potentially wasn’t as bad as his.
The Elise that he passes is a DVA-modified one, somewhere in the region of 150-160bhp, and you can see in a pretty straight drag race the Honda eats the K when it gets wound up. With an extra 25bhp or so from the VHPD, the result is the same, but less drastic I guess.
Here’s a couple of his other vids:

The not so good:
Death of a Honda - YouTube
There are always going to be horror stories and I guess every conversion and original engine will break eventually.
Jonny at BAT used his S1 elise for 70k track miles and had very few issues with it. He is a proper nutter behind the wheel … absolutely no mechanical sympathy. Thats what sealed it for me.
Interesting thread!
My VHPD was 203 BHP… and in my experiences at Donnington and at Anglesea, it was clearly faster round a lap that a N/A Honda’d car. And MUCH faster than the N/A Toyota cars too. The Honda SC’s however gobbled me up for brekky on the straights, but out of 2nd gear corners where aero drag was not so much a factor, it was still great fun in (almost) causing some embarrasment!!!
I also value the entire ‘driving experience’ of the VHPD. The noise is MUCH better than the Honda, the gearing is much better too… still in second when the Hondas are in 3rd, and most inportantly the exhaust FLAMES have a much nicer colour
Now, where is my tin helmet too!
Let’s be honest, with any of the 3 powerplants mentioned, the cars are stonking If peeps have a choice, they should try all 3, & then make their own minds up which suits them best - they most certainly won’t get slagged off on here, although friendly banter will always be the order of the day
You are of course Sir, 100% correct!
TOSSER!
Can I have a go in yours then!!!
Nah, you’ve already tried Martin’s
