Fit PIAA Extreme White bulbs-result is as good.
now using philips night breaker + in my cars without xenons and they are 90% of what you get from a HID conversion and legal

No, can’t see anything there that would cause above advice to fail MOT.

The philips bulbs are not HIDs so are totally legal and don’t require leveling or washers, you are correct about aftermarket HIDs which is why I didn’t fit them.
Podgers reference to the fitment of HIDs causing an MOT failure stems from the basic requirement for such devices to a) be self-levelling, and b) have a headlight washing device fitted.
But there is a get out clause for high performance vehicles that have “barely any luggage space and stiff suspension…”, so you simply need to speak with your friendly MOT tester and make sure they are aware of this

If your bulbs aren’t HID type as Ade suggests, then you have no problems at all.
Don’t think Podger read the thread.
Saw the title and jumped in.

This surely applies only to the self-levelling system? So washers would still be required as would acceptable aim & beam pattern.
Personally - and I have no wish to cause offence with this - I can’t stand bl**dy HID headlights. If someone can’t see at night with properly-maintained ordinary ones then they shouldn’t be driving.
It’s all very well to have an MOT that is supposed to cover HID’s ability to dazzle oncoming drivers, but that is sod-all use on anything other than dead flat road…and there ain’t many of those!
The ridiculous amount of dazzle still happens when an HID-equipped car comes over a rise; unless by some magical means they can be made to bend with the road…
Things I hate are the LED rear lights, particularly those fitted to Mercs.Latest ones are so bright that when braking they are blinding.
think i will go for the PIAA bulbs instead …cheers guys…
I suspect they are very similar to the night breaker ones, I was trying to decide which one to pick out of a few till I made a punt on them
i had actually saw a picture online for the PIAA bulb comparison with different bulbs. And it is almost as good as Xenon if not better.
