Heres a list !

hey people, im new to exige ownership (s1 chrome orange)
and recently i put my car into the local glasgow dealers for a bit of work. Any advice on these issues from you more experienced chaps?

  1. I get an annoying rattle/vibration apparently coming from the top of the engine between 3-4000rpm it dissapears after this rpm range but its quite loud. The dealers thought it may be the cams but have found no wear on them?
  2. I have pagid rs14’s and they squeak like buggery! will they get quieter the more i use them??
  3. Im contemplating getting the eliseparts headlamps, anyone fitted these? How much usually for a dealer to fit?

1 - have you checked the oil level & the alternator heat shield (the rivets can loosen and the shield vibrates - otherwise it may be a case of TADTS.

2 - RS 14s always seem to squeek on mine except after some spirited braking, then they go quiet for a while until the squeeks come back again

  1. it doesnt appear to be the heat shield and oil is fine. What do the capitals stand for??
  2. Got an anti squeal kit from eliseparts hopefully will sort it out!

I have the same with the Pagids esp under light braking,…answer=avoid light braking

well whatever it is its gotta be fixed its doing my head in!!
Id love to go to croft but im a track day novice!! I might however take it on the extreme sun run to ibiza for a laugh (no chav jokes now )

Don’t be put off, quite a few of us are not esp experienced (including myself in that statement ) and what better venue than with a load of other exigers where the mood will be friendly and tuition and tips will be on tap. Come on, you know you want to… You never know, the collective experience would probably be able to find the source of yer rattles within 5mins!

i dont know if you really want to let loose a hyperactive 22 year old on a track! Ill see if i can get away from work but i need to make sure the engine is healthy before i break it

TADTS - they all do that sir - standard answer to any problem from a main dealer

wouldn’t bother with the anti squeal kit - the car is just telling you to take it for a good thrash…respect it

  1. the rattle could be something in the most unexpected place… how do you know its coming from the top of engine ?.. does it do it at idle or just when on the move ? if you can ge it at idle then it should just be a case of trial and error to track it down (heat shields, loose bolt, air trunk to alternator, zorst manifold, etc etc…

  2. I think this is a fact of life with RS14’s if they don’t get a bit of a ‘doing’ from time to time… on the road you are unlikely to give em a doing…

  3. Don’t know what’s involved but i guess you could do it yourself… geary usually provides good instructions

Yep, with the RS-14’s you need to give em absolute hell! Mine never squeek after they’ve bedded in and had a full day at the races

Hence why you need to come to Croft and get those RS-14’s sorted
