Help: wont rev above 6000rpm

Drove the car for first time in a month, car was warm (NA S2 exige)on the freeway and dropped it into 3rd, would hit 6k then not rev past it. Tried it again 5 min later and was ok. Tried it since and now wont go over 6k again. Remember reading about coil packs a long time ago. Could this be the problem??

Just got back from a drive up the coast. Was fine for first 10 min then started again. Stopped the car for a couple of hours over lunch. Again was fine for first 10 min then intermittently wouldnt go past 6 ish.

Checked oil level?

I would say the same. Oil level may be slightly low. The cam switchover is done using oil pressure etc i beleive. Depending on what the terrain is like, up hill, downhill etc etc, there may not have been enough oil available if the level is a bit low.

Oil although there is an inherent fault when some cars refuse to rev past 6k rpm. Turn off/on and its fine again.

Keep an eye on your oil levels though as our engines seems to use it at random periods and its pretty important.

Been busy and just got around to checking the car. Checked the oil and was a little low. Topped it up and still playing up. When it first comes on temp it will rev all the way but after about 10 min driving not happy. Sometimes will go to say 7k then massive miss like hitting rev limmiter. Any other thoughts? Will replace plugs just in case.

Hi, IIRC Gooby (pistonheads) had a similar problem, think it was something to do with a chain had stretched and therefore would not go onto 2nd cam. Worth a look back over the archives on pH maybe?
